I have used fast transport TFs composed of CAs and DDs with great success to transport troops and supplies from Australia to Gili Gili and other locations. This is great. The troops load up, then travel to the destination, unload in the middle of the night and are back out of harms way by daylight.

However, how can I find out the transport capacity (for troops and supplies) of warships (CAs and DDs)? I can't find this anywhere.

If this is not listed on the ship detail screens, could we add this to the list of things to add to a future patch?

Thanks.

Well, let me elaborate a little more. I was surprised when my fast transport TF composed of 3 CAs and 4 or 5 DDs was able to load (and unload completely in the middle of the night at the destination) more than half a division. Is this realistic or a bug?

I cannot think of a single time when the Allies used cruisers to ferry troops to forward bases. Some old USN DD's were converted to fast transports, but AFAIK only the Japanese used regular DD's and CL's to move soldiers and food between bases. If you are able to do this with US ships, I think that would be a bug.

Did your ships take a lot of system damage? When I used US DDs to ferry supplies, they took a lot of system damage. It made me stop using them.

I didn't notice any damage at all to the ships during the mission.

Hi

After a while you will see damage on your ships if you use them like this on many fast transport missions. I only use my DDs or CLs (IJN) for this since I need my CAs fresh and ready for combat.

Yeah I have used this tactic alot.....but it does, as stated by Kid, really cause a lot of sys damage (all those grunts playing with things that they shouldn't on a DD;) ).

It seems to me that generally Fast Transport TF's build up system damage pretty fast. I had just assumed this is because the AI moves these TF's closer to thier Max speed, which builds up sys damage faster that movingat cruise speed.

I think the same thing happens to Bombardment TF's, but it is harder to tell, because I don't push Bombardment missions as hard as Fast Transports.

Gabby,

You're right about Bombardment TFs. I ran one between Cairns and Gili-Gili but had to stop fairly soon because damage built up a lot quicker than when you just cruise around.
