IIRC, ranks are of no relevance to all leaders except for those assisgned to captain ships. Does anyone has a complete list of what ranks goes to what ships?

Thanks in advance

I always thought ranks didn't mean squat.

The ranks don't count for anything, that is what the various stats are for, but do correspond to the size of the ship.  For example Battleships and Carriers will have Captains or Admirals available to command the ship, while smaller vessels like a PT Boat, Landing Craft or Barge will have a junior officer, such as Lieutenant JG or the Japanese equivalent, in command.  It seems by far the majority of ships will have a Captain and it is only the very small vessels, that will have a junior officer in command.

It's not done on rank, it's an editor setting. Each leader is assigned to a single group which then defines which ships and/or TFs he can command.

The same applies to LCU and air leaders too.

Look in the Leaders tab of the editor to see what I mean.

I have never been convinced of this but have never had it confirmed. My gut experience is that a large TF commanded by an average admiral is better than one commanded by a good captain.

Nor do I leave lieutenants in command of squadrons. Majors or better for me.

But this is my gut, feeling and I don't any dev has confirmed it one way or the other. Now is a great opportunity for somebody to step forward...

Captain Cruft:
I do not see the segregation that you mentioned in the editor. The only difference I see is TF commander and ship commander which is what that tracker can differentiate.

Everyone:
What I do see is that different ships can only be commandered by certain ranks. What I got was, on Japanese side,:

CM, xAP, AK (some), AKL, TK, capital ships CL & above =========> CPT only
SS, SS, most of the auxilliary ships like AS/AD etc ============> CDR/LCDR
AO, APD, LSD, AK ==================================> CDR/LT
PC, PB, DMS, AG ===================================> LT/LCDR/LTJG
CMc, E, SC, MTB, SSX, ACM, AMc ========================> LT/LTJG

It is by no means a comprehensive list, and I was looking for someone who has that, ty

pacificbetta is correct. There is a correlation bewteen ship class and rank when selecting a skipper, but I have seen no evidence that rank matters at all in actual job performance.
