Okay then, here we go.

Not going to post both of our "current" situations in the same thread. That works for me.

With that in mind I'll not be checking into Thewoods thread until we're finished. So, I'd appreciate that all comments in this thread only be on what I post in here. That will keep the FOW firmly in place.

Good Hunting.

MR

When I open the game I see the map Thewood has chosen for the battle and the setup zone I get to place my units in.

Good Hunting.

Looking from my side of the map I see 4 objectives. 1 off to my far left and 3 clustered together around the trees.

Since I've not played a random PCO game before I'm going to make some assumptions about his starting locations and figure that they will mirror my own. I would think the map is broken into thirds. With both he and I able to setup on our respective third with a third in the middle as a no-man's land.

With that plan in mind I'll forget about the flag that's off by itself for the moment.

Let's go and see what we can do about taking and holding the 3 flags in the trees.

Good Hunting.

Here is my starting position relative to the objectives on the map. The tactical map is in the lower right hand corner of the display screen.

I always like to take a look at the terrain and see what it is we have. There are wheat fields and grass, with light trees and heavier trees. Just like what it shows on the map when looking at it with your eyes.

WYSIWYG in this case.

Good Hunting.

Here are the company orders.

I want the Panthers (the 4 tanks on the left) out where their long range gun will work to my advantage and the PzIII's (the 3 tanks on the right) in close where they have a chance with their much weaker guns.

Good Hunting.

I haven't played any PC games but looking very forward to Ostfront.

from your AAR, it looks like you were informed of the enemy side taking an objective without actually observing enemy units on the objective.  Is this correct?  Does the game inform you of objectives that the enemy has taken whether you actually see it or not??

The objective flags will change color based on who controls the objective, whether they are in LOS or not. You can toggle them off and they will stay off until you restart the game and toggling them off will only affect what you see, not your opponent, but they will still be visible on the minimap.

thanks

I normally play with flags turned off but have them on during the AAR so you can see where the action is taking place. I believe there are several ways to win a scenario. You can either try to win by taking the objectives or by destroying the enemies forces or both.

Normally, I try to destroy the enemies forces and then take what flags I may need to win. At times that means I won't start off with capturing all the flags as my main goal. Such as this scenario. If I hold 3 out of 4 of the objectives and give my opponent higher losses I should win.

That's the plan in any case.

In this SS we see that we finally have Kontact! 4 Panthers against 5 T-34's.

Good Hunting.

My forces are ideally positioned to take control of this situation. I have him faced with Panthers and flanked with PzIII's. This should go well for me.

The problem with that is that often times things don't go as they should and I trade a Panther for a T-34/76.

Good Hunting.

But within 40 seconds the T-34's can't stand the combination of the Panther's tremendous gun and the armour on the front of the tank. The Germans lose no more Panthers here. The Russians lose an entire platoon in short order, as well as control of the objective.

I now have firm control of 2 out of 3 of the objective cluster and have inflicted heavy losses on the Soviets. Just how heavy remains to be seen.

Good Hunting.

This is just how close I came to losing this battle. If TW had managed to coordinate this move one impulse sooner I would have nothing but smoldering Panthers on this field.

Good Hunting.

The T-34's don't get a hit on any Panthers while they have them sitting looking away from them. Once the Panthers turn to face them the distance works against the T-34's.

While they come in single packs the Panthers keep on taking a toll.

The PzIII's keep moving through the woods to flank the Soviet force.

Good Hunting.

But beware! What you can see can also see you!

That yellow line coming in is a Russian targeting line.

What can be seen can be hit.

With that can come a quick end.

Notice the Victory Gauges showing the levels of victory points each side is attaining, as well as the 2 tank losses I've taken.

Good Hunting.
