Great list, no doubt.

But it wouldn't be completed without this: http://www.orbat.com/site/ww2/drleo/index.htm

Yes! And mirror the sites ;)

There once was an excellent site on a swedish server about the Normandy campaign with very detailed divisional TOEs / OOB: http://web.telia.com/~u18313395/, but it's gone now - anyone knows if it still exists and if so where?

And i'd like to add something about the British Artillery in WWII:

http://www.ra39-45.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/fldidx/index.html

and

http://nigelef.tripod.com/directory.htm - very detailed,

WWII Germany:

http://sturmvogel.orbat.com/Panzerkeil.html - various topics, OOB and tank strengths for Kursk; Wehrmacht and SS independent army units (Artillery, Engineers, Panzer-Abteilungen etc)

Nafziger has a lot -- but it's often erroneous.

I tend to use it if there's nothing else. If it conflicts with something like Niehorster or Lexicon, though, it gets overruled.

As an aside, forums can be very useful. If the question just got asked at some point, someone with the right books is likely to have answered it, and someone else with other books to have critiqued the answer.

And finally, for matters Ost, Glanz is irreplaceable. His actual writing style leaves a lot to be desired, but his texts are data, TO&E, and OOB goldmines.

Two that are easy to overlook that I use a lot:

http://sturmvogel.orbat.com/Panzerkeil.html Panzerkeil and its sister site Sturmvogel. Matters German. They make no claims to be comprehensive, but focus on otherwise untraceable oddities like the location and equipment of independent Artillery Abteilungen over the course of the war. I'll often plug in the army I'm interested in into 'find' and see just what non-divisional artillery comes up for the dates I'm interested in, for example.

http://www.bayonetstrength.150m.com/ 'Battalion Organization during the Second World War.' What I like about this site is that the author indicates just how certain his information is, and focuses on what units actually had as much as on what they were supposed to have. Also, inasmuch as its focus is on small unit organization, it tends to pick up about where other sites leave off.

The work you did on the German Welle TO&E's has been entered into the TOAW TOE project (your permission is assumed as you posted it here, but feel free to say 'yes'!). Do you have anything on the welles after the 15th ? I noticed Niehorster doesn't list them, but Axis History mentions up to a welle 29.

By all means, but would you mind telling me where this project is hosted?

I have not looked for TO&E information apart from Niehorster yet, but if/when i do I'll post anything i come up with.

Thanks for the links.

Some of mine that are still good as of this post:

Excruciating TOE detail on the Brits in NW Europe 44-45. http://truxmodels.co.uk/index.html

Canadians -- Normandy: http://www.junobeach.org/

Canadians WWII and later: http://www.armouredacorn.com/orbatsmain.html

Still good for the Commonwealth in the Levant/Med: http://homepages.force9.net/rothwell/index.htm

Australian War Memorial. Official histories on line, and very detailed for Operation Exporter at least: http://www.awm.gov.au/histories/

Official Canadian stuff: http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/sub.cfm?source=history/secondwar

RACA, Royal Canadian Armored Corp: http://www.rcaca.org/En/indexLM.asp?ID=1

African-American units WWII: http://www.5thplatoon.org/notable.html

Handbook of German Military Forces, online edition: http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/Germany/HB/index.html#contents

Everyone should have a link to Hyperwar just to see which primary document they have published recently. It's an incredible resource from the supply situation in NW Europe in September '44 to the organization of landing forces in the Pacific: http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/WhatsNew.html

Another free source of primary documents for the US Army WWII: http://www.lonesentry.com/

That's enough for now. Got to delete some dead links in the process. Time to check the new links on offer.

Just discovered this: http://www.btinternet.com/~ian.a.paterson/ - History of the Br. 7th Arm Div in WWII. A lot of info about various Regiments that were subordinated to the Division during the war.

Btw, i hate doing British TOEs in TOAW..especially when it comes to Reconaissance Regiments and all kinds of Armour Stuff. And especially when it's in the not so good documented Italian Theatre...

Btw II: Boonierat did a 21st Army Group OOB in TOAW format, you may add this to the list. Here's the link for download from GS: http://forums.gamesquad.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=479

The worst of the British is that they were endlessly drawing up TO&E's -- that were never implemented. Deviating from the theoretical TO&E was a universal tendency, but the British were worse than most. One site that at least attempts to work out what actually happened in practice is http://www.bayonetstrength.150m.com/

Then there are various threads. The following has some useful discussion for North Africa.

Boonierat's OOB was in the old COW format, it messed up formations when i loaded it into TOAW III. So, i converted it by loading the OOB into the COW editor, saving it as a COW scenario, loading the scenario into TOAW III and exporting the OOB.

There are three files in the .zip: A scenario file, the .OOL file, TOAW's internal format, and the .oob file which is the xml variant of the oob.
