ORIGINAL: warspite1 Simple fact is this: - The picture is not offensive in any way shape or form. - Just as important, the comments posted on the thread concerning the picture were not offensive or demeaning. - There was essentially a few harmless comments made in a spirit of fun. Nothing for anyone to get uptight about. - One person made an issue of it. The same person who - while deciding in his infinite wisdom that the picture of the young lady would get the thread locked - quite happily took part in a political discussion re Libya just a few days beforehand on The Thread. - This "discussion" quickly turned nasty and that person made the following delightful post - "There's not one square centimeter of Libya that's worth one drop of European or American blood. So no, Hortlund, (you stuck-up, holier-than-thou git) I don't care." - So political talk, abuse of another threadster for daring to have an alternative opinion, and (mild) swearing is okay but not that picture? Double standards per chance? Anyway, I was drawn to The Thread because it was supposedly a place "where people who do not take themselves too seriously" could hang out and post whatever came to mind. There are some good guys on here, but frankly I get too much grief from one individual to make it worthwhile. Hortlund is not a Threadster but a passerby. Those two have had run-ins before. You would be wise not to judge about that of which you know nothing. Warspite1 Mynok - that comment is unworthy of you. Firstly, the fact that they have history is - as you well know - not the point. Even if they "have history" the language used in that post, and the tone of the comment, is not up to forum rules and standards. Nor indeed was the nature of the political discussion in the first place. Secondly, I assumed from USS America's oft repeated refrain about this thread being open to anyone, that a "threadster" was anyone that took up that invitation and joined in the fun. If that is not the case, and instead there is an elite group that can verbally treat "non-threadsters" or "passers by" in a way that breaks forum rules then so be it. Is that what you are saying? I agree with Warspite on this, Mynok. Yes I know their history, and yes I agree that its not the point. If the Thread is to be a self-policing entity it must adhere to some simple rules of adult behavior. For example, if you feel like taking a swipe at someone, perhaps you should walk away from your keyboard while you consider it. Again, the topic and history are not at issue, but I submit that that comment was completely uncalled for. We have all been guilty of it at one time or another, but none of us have made it a habit, except one person.
