The AI will consistently evacuate surrounded cities if the player leaves one hex open.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the AI had absolutely nothing to lose by staying in the city and making the Axis minors work for the city, the resources, and the rail junction. Instead it moved the whole stack across the river towards oblivion.

This happens a lot. I took Kursk last turn the same way, I pocked the city and left one hexside open, the AI promptly moved everyone out the next turn.

If the AI can send out one unit to cut a vital supply line or cause havoc in the rear, that's fine. But in almost every case the defenders are better staying put and dying for their hex.

No I'm not. Are you willing to send me turns every two hours until whenever I fall asleep and allow me to restart the campaign whenever I feel like it?

Your right no one would want to try to play under these conditions. You sound like one of those players who play at a game rather than play the game. I would be interested in knowing what level you are playing the AI. Don't you have a real life? I mean all day every day play a few turns ( till the blizzard I bet) then start over. If this is your idea of having a life I or "Playing a game" I do feel sorry for you, but I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go around.

I think that was a rather uncalled for personal attack! Carnifex pointed out a flaw in the AI behavior, and then said it suited him best to play the AI. What is wrong with that?

I've seen it in a lot of cases as well. The same city in fact in my game.
I think the AI knows its almost surrounded as the "pull back" routine seems much better than in earlier versions but there is no routine telling it it doesn't have enough movement to get out and so stay put in better defensive terrain.

I'm not interested in your views on how I should play the game and under what conditions. If I sounded snarky in my reply it was because your own post was completely unhelpful - telling me to play a human when I'm reporting an AI bug is helpful and adds to the discussion how? I'm sure you and your fat greasy friends have nothing better to do than to sit around your mommas stinky basement all weekend planning your intense summer offensives nerd-to-nerd, but I am a handsome and dynamic business executive and when my actress model wife is out of town I like to spend a dozen hours snorting very expensive cocaine and blasting through the Soviet lines. I need the AI because my exclusive Brazilian prostitute friend isn't so great at protecting river lines.

LOL! Wish I could find a smok'in hot babe that knows how to play both WitE and WitP-AE and well at that! Make her rich also as I'm tired of working for a living and want to partake in more just pure fun. Oh, and she should always go home to her own house after breakfast until I call on her again...

Odessa has a port facility, when I surrounded it and attacked the first turn they stayed. The second turn I reinforced my seige all the way around but didn't attack. The third turn they evac'd the city prior to my attack. So the AI apparently figures the odds and if it looks like they (AI) will most likely lose, they evacuate if possible and by sea if the route is available, my guess anyway...
