ORIGINAL: Skanvak I'd like to use TOAW for fictionnal work. Is it possible to create new units? (I mean squads, tanks)
It's way too extensible. I've even seen a Lord of the Rings boardgame style scenario floating around somewhere.

I have downloaded the TOAWIIIequipement editor. It seems that it must edit a equipement file. But I don't find a way to create this equipement file? Is it created automtically when you create a scenario?

The default .eqp is in the directory you installed the TOAW Eqp Editor.
Klink told me of a tutorial pdf for the equipement editor. I don't find it. I f someone has the link I am interested or any document to help understand what everything means (though I will get an idea by reading again the TOAWIII rules but I might miss some interaction).
ok, I have found it. but it was not in the short cut. Did not install correctly maybe BUT it was in the folder. Sorry I should have llok there first (I have look in the equipment editor folder but not the TOAW Folder).
Thought it is the old Bioed, not the new editor. I htink I will manage to find out the differences.

Ach Kameraden... it's where all the other docs are. If you can't find it; visit the Gefechtsstand and I'll email it.
Oberst, it appears you're running my version of the BioEd rather than the one posted the link to - that's probably where some of the confusion came from.
I wonder what some of the value mean. I have read the manual and still wonder about some value :
_ volume _ Weight _ shell Weight _the different type of armor _ shock cavalry _ Infantry (what does it impact exactly? the number of shot only or the movment rate too?) I don't think of other now.

Andy.
The link is still in my startup folder. Not anymore though. And yes, I got your latest version. Any chance to donate a few kiwi$ to your paypal account? Good work has to be rewarded!
Volume is express in cubic meter and is usefull only for vehicle Volume for infantry should be 999 and have no bearing Weight is in Kg
What should I put in DF value for tank?
What exactly mean Kinetic anti-armor? Difference between laminate and composite armor? They look the same as far as I know.
Two design question :
I intend to use Armoured and Infantry setting for the power armor of the spacemarine. Do you see any trouble doing this?
Is there a problem to include MG and other heavy weapon in Infantry squad? Should I had value? Should I made them separate value to represent the increase number of shot?

How is calculated the transport hability of an equipement with the transport capacity? Because I though to use one equipement for a 5 men squad but I have to be sure that this 10 len can enter the Rhino APC.
8.2.7 Unit Weight This is the sum of the weight of all assigned equipment, expressed in tons. This figure is used when determining whether the unit is eligible for transport by Aircraft, Helicopters, Ships, or Trains.
You just create the units you want to drop on the 'planet' etc. and then you design and adjust the weight lifting capacity of your drop ships or your planetary mech assault transports.
Trucks and all kind of motorised transport can lift two pieces of equipment (those with moves slowly or requires transport flag). Horse teams can transport one equipment piece with the moves slowly flag or two pieces with the requires transport flag. The distinction between horse team and fast horse team refers only to speed. (Horse or Fast Horse flag in the equipment editor). Is this what you wanted to know?
As for your other questions:

Italic Text is from Bob Cross' "How to edit the Equipment Database" article in the TOAW III manuals folder.
Note the “Volume” value (probably in cubic meters). This is used to form the tank’s RCSB value by the formula RCSB = SQRT(Volume) x 20.4125. Bigger the RCSB, the easier the tank is to hit. “Weight” is in Kg, but doesn’t seem to be used by TOAW. I’d enter it anyway.

DF factor for armored vehicles. Their DF factor is actually calculated from their armor factor. The value in the DF database entry for such vehicles actually pertains to the vehicle weight, instead. [...] weight = 0.75 x DF value (rounded down) [...] Actual DF = 5 + Armor/10 (rounded down). (There are a few arcane exceptions, such as tanks with reactive armor and SP guns, but TOAW handles them for you – you just enter the armor value)

Thanks first part on transport was what I asked and it helped. If I understand for land transport, the number of unit transported cannot be changed, it is hard coded. Ok.
I am still a bit puzzled about the last part. Sad Norm didn't let explanation to its games engine to the public.
For example I am still wondering which is the difference between laminate and composite.
And for the DF to be enter in the editor it seems to be DF= weight/0,75
Klink thanks for the weight info, I didn't notice it. Thought the editor seems to use kg and not tons.
I still don't get why infantry have 999 in volume and no weight. May be it is useless for lightweight unit?

I suspect Bob Cross to know more about this...

As said, volume is only needed for tanks (more specifically for every armored piece of equipment)* and only there it's applied. Think of 999 as a (hard coded) value telling the engine: Do not use ..or so...
1 squad = weight 1, btw.
*I intend to use Armoured and Infantry setting for the power armor of the spacemarine. Do you see any trouble doing this? <- quote from you.
Now i see a problem there..

I only know what's in the Manual:
Exotic Armor These types of armor provide improved resistance to HEAT antiarmor weapons. - Composite Armor: The equipment has Composite Armor. - Laminate Armor: The equipment has Laminate Armor (for example, Chobham armor). - Reactive Armor: The equipment has Reactive Armor.
I gather that Laminate's benefit may be a bit better than Composite's (but maybe not) since the most modern tanks have it. Reactive seems to be an "extra" that can be added to the other two.

Kamerad, have a look at this article and contact Ray for ideas/help.

Thanks I did not know for squad weight.
For the power armour, I have always think that they were some kind of one man vehicle (like dreadnought) and therefore they are hard target. Just putting High defence seemed wrong.
If I remeber rightly, the infantry setting should limit the number of fire so it should be ok? What problem do you see (honestly, I need to discuss about that)?
