I installed the game and the v35001 patch and I get this error:

CommandCenter.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).
Click on OK to terminate the application.

This error happens every time? Are you launching directly from double-clicking the EXE or are you launching through the command center launch screen?

It happens from every way to load, shortcut on desktop, CC3 and CommandCenter exe's. Is it possible I got a corrupt download when I bought it and can I re-download to make sure? I bought it in January but just tried it know.

Hey JPR71, here's what our lead developer said:

quote:

What he is getting is some sort of crash on startup. He is using XP and I
don't see anything odd about his system config. Would recommend a complete
uninstall/re-install to the default directory just to see if something was
messed up in the installation.

The key there being that you should try installing to the default directory. Let us know if this helps.

Ok, here is some more info on my problem, I re-installed again and didn't patch it this time however. I was able to load the splash screen but pressing play does nothing. Also during installation I got this error while installing Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
"Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Setup
Setup cannot continue because this version of the .NET Framework is incompatiable with a previously installed one. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q312/5/00.asp"

So, I installed the patch again and got the same error as before when I first posted, so perhaps the patch is my load problem?!

Please help out this old CC3 gamer who is trying to get back in the CC3 experience, I used to be bigger in the community creating the SS and Poland '39 Grand Campaigns for the respected mods of CC3. I also believe I need Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 for the plugins i want to use.
Thanks for all future help sent!

Your plugins are included in the Poland mod conversion for CoI

very nice!

just to check on your installation problem.

have you tried running CloseCombatCC.exe from your games folder

C:\Program Files\Close Combat\Close Combat III\Support\CloseCombatCC.exe

Hi Andrew Williams,
I'm happy that some of the campaigns made it to the plugins as I once was a regular at the CSO site (which I hope is still around, I've been out of it for a while having a family but really miss it). I want to really get back into the mods like GD, WF, SS and Afrika mods, if their still their, if I ever get my game to run. Anyways I just did a complete uninstall, clean and reboot and then again installed the game. I've tried every thing that you and Oddball has recommended like run from the CC3 folder and Support folders with no success. Right now I have it installed with no patches installed and it gets me to the splash screen with- PLAY CLOSE COMBAT CROSS OF IRON- does nothing after clicking it, BATTLE HQ- loads screen and log in, and all other buttons bring me to where they should go. I still think that I either have a original corrupt download or that their is something wrong with Microsoft Net Framework. Also I only get the original error when I patch it.-"CommandCenter.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).
Click on OK to terminate the application. "

Is it possible to re-download the original game file, I have all my original docs and serial?

I would assume so. First step would be to contact Matrix support to have them give you the correct process to follow. While you're doing that I will point out the issue to them in case they have something specific they need you to do.

JPR71 one of our testers gave this a try on an XP machine he runs and did not have any problems installing, launching and playing the game. He did however point out that he does not install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 as he doesn't use the plugin builder or other functions that require it. He made the suggestion that you try uninstalling then reinstalling except don't install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and see if that fixes the problem for you. Maybe when you re-install your downloaded digital copy you could try his suggestion out.

If you're interested in trying that let us know if it works or not. Thanks.

*EDIT* In discussing this with the Lead Developer he'd pointed out that the game does not in any way make use of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. That leads me to believe that by not installing .NET Framework you'll see no change with the issue you're reporting which indicates the problem is not specific to the game. We can continue to try and help despite this.

*EDIT 2* A recommendation from our lead developer:
quote:

Have him check his virtual store directories and registry entries (I’d have to look it up to see where they go on XP) and delete anything that’s there, then re-install.
