Its all in how you do it dude. I have Win XP Pro as well and I have run my SP3 cd with it already. It is possible you might just have to keep plugging away. Remember a lot of XP's usefullness is in that it "can" do DOS games. In a few cases I have had to go and search a while for the solution. In some cases you have to use Win XP's compatibility feature. I wont try to offer any techy solutions here (as I aint a techy by any stretch of the imagination). But keep at it. I happen to know SP3 runs on a XP installed computer.

Ok, I can only get the black screen to come up and I can HEAR the SSI intro playing. But thats it. Pressing space bar only causes the intro sound to stop, but it still shows that Protected mode crap at the top....THATS IT! What else can I do???

You have to run it through a shortcut I believe, but you will probably have to modify the properties. I have a problem with any brand spanking new OS,Im still using Win 95 on my AMD K-6 233 system and Win 98SE on my AMD Athlon 1333 system. Both of these operating systems have a full or pure dos mode.
I personally cant make the break beyond dos because I still use it.

Are you trying to run the intro splash page or start it directly with mech.exe? I suggest the latter. Also get the very serious XP security patch if you connect to the Internet from your XP box. It can be compromised just by connecting, without you running anything.

Mech.exe is the executable that runs the game. I am not familar with steel3.exe. It sounds like a SPIII thing, not a SPWaW file.

Hi, Mech.exe is a SPWAW file not a SP3 file. One solution could be to use a program like Partition Magic to create a new partition on the HD and then install a old dos-system on that partition. It could be used to run all kinds of old dos programs. Regards, Lars
