Ok, so we just got this new patch that's not quite right..... What's next??????

At this point I kinda feel like we didn't get enough in the Return of the Shakturi expansion. I don't mind shelling out money to support the game/developers, but only if they continue to dish out some love of their own.

Simply put.....I want more, and I feel like I'm being strung along. The two juiciest morsels in the expansion were the fighters and the tech tree. There were no other ship classes.....there were no real weapon additions beyond missiles.....there were no artificial world constructs.....there really isn't any race specific weapons.....there is no territory system......

I don't know...maybe I missed the statement where any of this was on the way ( soon ), but right now I need Matrix/CodeForce/Erik to throw me a bone. I'm suffering unduly for want of substantive news on a substantive update/expansion.

It seems I read here somewhere in these forums that we might not very well see much of anything until the end of the year, though between now and then bug fixes as necessary likely only... I hope this is wrong indeed as we need a lot more loving for this great game

I personally think that:

1) CodeForce is working on a new expansion. Will tell us during summer. Released later this year.
2) CodeForce is working on modding tools. Will be released during summer or autumn.
3) CodeForce is working on both of the aforementioned things and will release expansion on 3rd or 4th quarter of this year.

Patience is a virtue.
Honestly: I've got lots of other games to play besides the regular DW, and some real-world stuff on top of that.

Still, I'd love if Erik and Elliot would give us some hint of what they are working on.

Yeah, I agree with you, J.

I've taken up some scale model building recently, so it's dug into my gaming time quite a bit.

I don't think Elliot likes to tell us what he's working on until it's set in stone. If he were to tell us he's working on a border system, we'd all expect it soon, but if there were any problems, it would get delayed and might frustrate alot of people more than anything else.

Best to keep your cards close to your chest, especially when dealing with such a ravenous pack of wolves as we Distant Worlders are.

Didn't the expansion just come out four months ago?

I'm feeling the same impatience as simulation, but I have to keep reminding myself of what a small team Codeforce is....and yes, we did get the expansion 4 months ago! Seems like 4 years ago though!

Edit: I've finally got round to trying to upload a profile photo (jpeg format). Dimensions are within limits but it doesn't seem to be showing on the forum...anyone know what the problem might be?

Some idea about the next expansions features would be nice so we can debate.

Is your picture less than 750kb? Make sure the radio button "don't display my picture" isn't checked.

I just hope they decide to expand upon the existing package for awhile and not do one of those #2 versions and throw it all out! This game appears to be largely expandable for a long time...

Kinda like SL though ASL was much better, I always liked that I could add to the existing and the add-ons always kept it fresh and intersting for years!

There is definitely a lot to expand on for YEARS. I just wish they'd pick up the pace a little. I know they aren't a big company and that's why mostly all I do is look at the forums and sigh without posting rants. Sometimes though....sighing doesn't cut it.

I, indeed, understand what everyone is asking for. The game most certainly requires improvements... AI, graphics and performace, more features, etc.

I just would like to share my thoughts with you fellow gamers. What I sometimes (now always, of course) appreciate though is to have a decent product to play with without having to worry about when the next patch, next expansion, next update, next pack of features, next anything is coming up and out. What I mean is that when I constantly keep thinking that the game is not complete...or, rather, can be sooo much better, that an update is soon to be released.. pfff ruins it for me. Can't play the game. Sometimes its better just to play the game and not worry about the updates. Fine... much required patch is on its way in 2 months... fine... At the moment, the game is decent enough for me to play and enjoy it now. They'll improve it. They definitely will. But for now, I'll enjoy what I have.

I suppose if all customers were to think like me, no game would ever get better. :) I also fully comprehend that the players' constant demands (excuse my portuguese) is what makes DW more polished and our current version is the direct result of our requests and feedback.

I hope my thoughts won't be misunderstood. Games must keep getting polished/improved. Just... I hate being in a rush for an update. That way I'll never be satisfied. Okay, I would also like to note that I am really confused about my own thoughts. :)

You're not the only one...I mean we're not also confused about your thoughts but by our own. Man, this self reflecting stuff is hard...I feel brain damage occurring.

I know how MaxyGamer feels as well.

I wonder, though, if we would feel better, if we knew what was coming out and when, or worse?

It would certainly give us something to talk about, but it might also cause us to stop playing until we see the release of our desired new feature.

Right now, I'd settle for  a little bit of information, but like I said above, they can't give us anything until Elliot is absolutely certain.

Probably better just stay quiet for now. Small bits of information have a nasty habit of starting unnecessary, crazy rumors and needlessly create hype from nothing. No sane developer wants this, even though they are not technically responsible of it.

I think Elliot has been wise to take a step back from the forums over the past few months. I know that he checks the tech support forum just before a patch release to let people know bugs etc that have been resolved...but that appears to be the extent of his participation.

I think one of the biggest headaches any developer deals with is managing expectations. You're damned if you do and certainly damned if you don't!

I do miss the days of Elliot popping in now and then to chat or to comment on some ideas.

I think the last time I saw him post something content related and outside of the tech support, was when he commented on a borders system being something he might look at.

I just wonder if he regrets making that comment, since there has been much debate about it. I don't think he should regret saying anything, as I think we're all happy if he needs to take all the time necessary to make it work.

Just wondering why he doesn't wade into the conversation anymore. Perhaps it's a Matrix policy that Elliot will concentrate on the coding and Erik will talk to us, but even Erik has been neglecting us a bit lately.

Anyway, not unhappy about it, just letting the devs know. It would be nice to have them pay us a visit from time to time, because we miss you.

Remember the chat session with Elliot? It was a first for any developer that I know off...and hopefully will not be the last.
Patches and new features also count as presence but offcourse you cannot hug a patch

well we dont have comets in systems could be something useful and tactical.

Some more events and mroe variance in the tech tree.

Terraforming or colony expansion, some form of asteroid settlements, gas giant orbital faciliities that can hold limited populations

More varied pirate experience

I'd wish for :

- something to do with researsh after you found everything. Maybe an exponential cost 'futur tech' reducing cost or giving a small bonus. Not something game breaking or that would even further widens the gap with less advanced civilization, but that still would produce an incentive to researsh and little perks feeling

- better behaviour of fleets, either to gather fuel while idle or troops

- perimeter defence : any non-allied, non-commercial, ship / combat fleet entering a system which you 'claimed' should be considered hostile and trigger hostile action, if wanted, at no reputation hit (hum yer I'm french... Maginot line thinking :) )

- maybee 'projects' to build. I really like the world devastator repairing thing. I'd love to have other things like that, and maybee be able to start my own projects, like terraforming a new planet --> could be an empire wide things because it requires much effort, leading to an economic drain, but scientific boost, etc...

- random events ? A bit like startrek BotF or Moo...

- things that personalise the colonies even more : ruins only gives + cultural bonus, except for a few empire wide bonus. I'd love to be able to have more empire wide bonus (but with less bonus not to unbalance things) As of now, there's few strategic interest to invade enemy colonies except to gain more population and $. Nothing like : I need more oil (japanese WW II) or I need this resource, or this 'wonder'

Hi guys,

FYI the new DW update should go into public beta this week. After that goes official, we'll be ready to start dropping hints about the future, but not before then.

Regards,

- Erik
