In the tread Rsvd? There is someone using my exact forum name and even same join date - what's that all about?

If it wasn't you then somehow the forum database has assigned your ID to the post accidentally. Not sure how that would happen.

This must be it, having the same name is one but having the same join date? Why would anyone want that deliberately?
Do you have another DW friend that may have accidentally used your id to post this from your own computer?

It looks like the same account when you click the user name. Recent post history is all the same.

Looks like the forum just got a bit confused and logged this guy into your account. In which case, you'd think he'd notice this after he posted. I'm confuzzled.

I think the forum software here has some serious quirks, as I had a similarly bizarre experience when I first signed up with the Matrix forums couple years ago (2009, I think).

When I tried to register as "Martok", I was informed my account already existed; it showed that I had (supposedly) joined back in 2004, when I know for a certainty that I've never done so. It even listed several posts that "I" had made previously. What was even stranger was that the password I entered for my account was apparently identical to what the previous "Martok" had entered, and I was able to get into the forums without a problem. A very odd episode all around.

Looks like the forum has problems with people registering a name that already exists and overwrites some of the old account's data with the new ones.
"Gargoil" doesn't seem that extravagant to me, it's probably what happened again here.

Have you ever logged in to Distant Worlds forum on a PC that is used publicly? In other words any PC that could have been used by anyone else.

No, I did not.

Only on my Home PC and my work laptop. Neither is available for anyone else to use.

The post from this "alternate" Gargoil seem benevolent. So I will chalk it up to some kind of forum bug.

Ask the Matrix bods to check the IP logs - might be someone from your own household.

That is really a good idea.
I am glad that it is benevolent, but double check anyway.

Hehe. The reason I spelled it "Gargoil" instead of "Gargoyle" was because most places Gargoyle is taken. So to be unique I spelled it in this more comical way.

And wouldn't you know a cookie monster would steal it! lol.
