In a game of AT:G I have noticed the following: in the beginning, you'll scrambling to get metals so you can have factories creating units but later the real punishing factor will be fuel. Sooner or later you will realize that making planes and tanks for all infinity is not a very economic choice.

So what are we going to spend all those metals we aquired early in the game at? Sure, we could stop making footsoldiers in our cities and focus on mortars, bazookas and machineguns. But that doesn't create a very resiliant unitmix, now does it? We could build lots and lots of artillery and thats never bad but it won't help our infantry unit's attack capabilities that will be limited.

The answer is the infantry gun. It has, If I may say so, gotten a huge upgrate compared to the original AT. When it has it's first upgrade it recieves the ability to function as onehex artillery which makes it supreme in infantryheavy stalemate situations: not going to assualt the opponent this turn? then do a bit of bombard to increase the enemys supply consumtion and turn the war of attrition to your favour. In an attacking unit the infantry gun fills the same role as the mortar, it makes the infantry unit pack little extra punch. The difference is that the infantry gun can be created in a factory, leaving the cities to produce the supporting infantry. And as long you remember to mobilize with some horses, there the unit will operate normally. So three cheers to the infantry's attacking weapon of choice, the infantry gun!

The one-hex range of the infantry gun II is pretty cool.

interesting... haven't tried out that SFtype yet.
In the original AT I was not a fan of Infantry Guns. They did not give a lot of punch for the weight they added to a unit. Glad to hear they have upgraded them somewhat.
