Am involved in an Operation MO scenario as the Japanese.

On more than one occasion I have found my ML ships unwilling to deploy their mines in certain hexes. The greatest offender is Irau, which is presently in Japanese hands. Two different MLs have gone to Irau and then left with their mines still on board.

Kind of aggravating as an Allied invasion is expected in time.

Also, there have been times when my MLs would would retire from a given destination even when designated 'Patrol/Do Not Retire'.

Third, I've seen these same ships actually refuse to go to Rabaul. One sat there 5 hexes from Rabaul for 4 turns. I finally gave up and sent it back to Truk.

Anyone else had similar problems with these same ships?

Hi all,

I always use my MLs with "Patrol/Do Not Retire" except for the
very last leg of the trip. I also refuel them one/several times
(depending on ML endurance) during the trip.

IMHO if you follow the above "rules" you can reliably use MLs
in almost every situation.

I'm not having any problem and I also leave them on Do not Retire and set a "waypoint" that is 1 move short of their final destination. When they arrive I change them to Retirement Allowed and the next turn they move in any lay their mines.

I've seen similar behaviour with Allied MSWs. I send them on a cruise (Retirement allowed) from Noumea to Koumac and they just sit something like 5 hexes out from Koumac until I change to 'Patrol/Do not Retire'.
The same thing can happen between some of the harbours on the Australian coast.
