I bought it but never got round to installing or learning it.

it was almost uplayable when it first arrived...there have been some major improvements since then...playing the AI is only good for learning the mechanics...the game shines in PBEM multi-player...

Yeah, as shipped it was pretty bad.

I'm pretty sure Brother Mynok is an old board game EiA player.  Not sure if he kept up with the computer version after it's "less than stellar" initial release.

I am indeed an old EiA player. I have the new game but have not played it much recently. PBEM didn't work so well. Maybe they've worked on it.

Tend to like playing Turkey, though against the AI it is very difficult as it backstabs you fast.

Paper and cardboard EiA player as well... many fond memories of the game. We had a group that would meet weekly and play...the highlight was that each week a different person would have to prepare a lunch for the other players with the dish being from the country that the player was representing.

Great idea. Hope conquered minors and free states counted (hate to see Italian food go to waste). One thing I do remember from the boardgame were a lot of rules arguments at least compared to Diplomacy (one of the other games that we played).

There were lots of rules ambiguities in the original Australian Design Group version (which is what I played). The AH version was much better from that perspective. I liked the ADG counters better though. One of the games I still have, though the box is badly beaten up (and was when I bought it used at a convention). I'll never part with that one. Same goes with my copy of The Longest Day.

Now I just have to talk USS into playing twice a month and we could get on with it.

Loved that game but, yeah, one of the worst rules manual ever written.

Fortunately for us, the clouds have passed, the sun is out, and we're in store for a beautiful weekend.

My little boy becomes a teenager on Saturday.

He's been very into the Army for about a year now, with lots of Airsoft and army surplus stuff, running around in the woods. His dream is to fly the Apache for the Army. For his birthday, my wonderful wife has found a helicopter flight school near Charlotte that allows people to start as a student at age 13. It's not going anywhere past the intro stage yet, but he's scheduled for an introductory helo flight, where he'll get to try his hand at making that contraption flit about the sky a bit.

It's going to be a great day.

Hmmm...I've been poking around just a little bit with Cyberboard recently. Do you have any experience using it or VASSAL? If you know what your doing with one of those tools, I could probably be talked into a PBEM/IM game of 3rd Reich. At least I would only have to relearn that one, instead of completely learning EiA from scratch. I have the 3rd edition of 3R rules in a box with most of the counters, up in the attic.

I'd be interested in learning about Vassal as well. I've installed it on my box but haven't really futz'd around with it yet. Too busy letting witpqs treat me badly during the test of my mod...

Ditto. All the divisions are in their own little baggies, just waiting to be marched across Normandy again. One day...

We've got another 18 months before that happens. Hopefully by then the teenage daughter will be shuffled off to uni, or on a gap year far, far away.

Won a bottle of whiskey in the Senior Rates' Mess raffle then tried to play it with 2 friends - disaster, up boarded, hillarity, hang over.

He's got a while yet though, things might change. Although it's pretty much the only thing I wanted to do since I was old enough to think about it. Probably comes from growing up in the flatlands.

You get to play with expensive toys, see the (sandy parts of) the world, learn a trade (unless you're a shiny) and you get free shoes!

My son and I war-gamed for years, from when he was about eight or nine years old. He went before an Officer selection board when he was eighteen. He is now twenty-one, and has been in the Army for three years. He on his second tour overseas, and loves his Job. But the only problem is that I have lost my live-in gaming opponent.
