ORIGINAL: Bradley7735 Hi Michael, I am wondering if it is working correctly. A lot of the examples are going to be large ships with armored devices (16" guns, 8" guns, etc). But, I have seen a lot of examples that seem very weird. Several times I've seen DD main guns (~5") hit submarines after they have surfaced hit the target location of "Turret Hit". Subs don't have armored devices. Nothing on them should stop a 5" round from penetrating, at least not the majority of hits. I've seen this on small ships being hit by large caliber guns. Most DD's, PC's and SC's don't have armored devices of any kind. Yet, "Turret Hit" results in no destroyed device or damage (It's hard to see this because ships generally get hit a lot and you can't separate out the non-penetrating hits from the penetrating hits.) Now, when I see messages like "Belt Hit" or "Deck Hit", it implies that you struck the target, but cause only insignificant damage (0-1). "Turret Hit" would imply that it is non penetrating, as you have said above. But, I have never seen "Turret Penetrated" to imply damage. I always see a specific device hit, never a general "Turret". I'll see "20mm Oerkilon" hit. Or "16inch/50cal" hit. Or 22" Torpedo tube" hit. etc. I really think that "turret hit" is a redundant feature from the past and that very specific device wording has replaced it. Because there are no "Turrets" on ships and there are "specific device names" on ships, it's causing no damage when hit. Anyway, I think the surface combat routines are working extremely well. When I see "Turret Hit", I chalk it up to luck. The outcome is generally not decided by one hit. Please keep up the great work. I read the tech forum as much as any other forum now. You're working almost faster than I can read. bc A turret in this case means the weapon mount. If you get a successful hit on the weapon mount/turret, then you get the 'turret hit' message (and some fire damage but nothing else) or the 'mount/turret destroyed' message and possible more damage. One note is that the mount is any device in slots 1 to 18. (interestingly, it does not treat slots 19 or 20 as mounts. I suspect that this is really related to slots such as 'ordnance' ones. It should really include these if there is a real weapon there.)
