At first glance mscorlib seems to be a Windows library and the ArgumentOutOfRange seems to be related to too many open popups.
Found this on MS site but does not seem to tell much -> http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.argumentoutofrangeexception.aspx
What we do know is that mscorlib.dll is a process belonging to the .NET Compact Framework program, seems to be the core library for it.

Another interesting post here -> http://forums.create.msdn.com/forums/p/25969/141764.aspx
Didn't had time to go deeper, if you google for "mscorlib ArgumentOutOfRange" you get lots of info but this is either Windows or DW so it doesn't seem there is much we can do to workaround it.

Hope you get the same luck with this one as with the last one

Hello,

I have the exact same problem... (Problem Event Name: CLR20r3 )
One Thing I did notice is strange... it does not crash directly to desktop.
There is the Window poping up that sais "Windows got a problem... jadajadajada" you know what I mean... and If I do NOT click the "Close" Button on it, the game just keeps running.

I did move the window nearly out of the screen to continue playing the game, but guess what... after this error the whole AI stops working. I mean the state and private ships especially... and this is where my economy is dying... so I can "play" but I can not !PLAY! ^^

Yap, also had the same behavior but I don't think the same error as reloading the game bypassed it for me.
Btw, welcome to the forum maximus84....related to the Gladiator by any chance?

Does the crash repeat from the last save?

If it does upload a save to the server.

Hey Data ^^

Yeah I was with 15 in the Cinema and have seen the Gladiator and I was really impressed by his Way of Life... since then I did use his name in many ways ^^

Back to Topic:
Yes I have a Save and yes it does repeat... BUT... I did use a custom Race I did make... the Drakh, from Babylon 5... so I do not know if it helps when I upload this save, cause Elliot does not have the race file and the pics and that stuff, i think.

It may be or may not be relevant for this case, you should upload it anyway...it can't hurt

Please upload the savegame maximus84. The savefile will have all the info Elliot needs to see, even
if it has user-created modfiles.

I am at it, don't worry ;-)

Did send the user created content with the zip file, so Elliot is nearly ready to go and see it ingame also.
I did also write him a small Readme with what when happened and stuff like that...

And I also had to figure out how to upload it :-D

The name of the zip is:

DrakhCLR20r3.zip

Nah, I'd still prefer it unlocalized....and hoping Elliot does the tons of stuff we ask relentlessly

It's you that's bugged not the game!

The game throws an exception when the suns shining.

It was programmed by a New Zealander afterall.

So... I did test some stuff...

Did make a new game with the default theme today as the Sluken. The only other settings I did change were:

Pirates from many set to few
Same for Monsters
And I did disable the Maingame and Expansion Storyline
I also did disable independant Aliens going Empire

I played to year 6 years and had not one crash... with all my other games with the settings I had before I get the crash usually 2-3 years into the game. I think it has something to do with the Expansion Storyline and the Ancient Machines... I will test this further... but it could not hurt if other people write down their game settings here and Tell if they have the same error, or if they have not have it with their settings. This could not just help people to play the game if they bypass some configurations and play with other configs, it could also help Elliot spotting and squatting the Bug ^^

Good input, maximus. I don't play much these days but I've never got this error. I can confirm on my settings as very rarely I use pirates and monsters these days but I always use both storylines and allow the independents to spawn empires.
Given the System.ArgumentOutOfRange I suspect it's actually a memory management problem and any variable can hit it.

I did test some more now... let the games running for 10-12 years each...

So I did try with independand aliens going empire activated -> no error
I did test with NO Enemy Empires at all and one time with 19 empires -> no error
I did activate both storylines -> no error
I did use the Ingame Editor sometimes -> no error so far after 10 years
I did switch the theme and did test with my custom theme + Race (the Drakh) -> no error

But I let the Monsters and Pirates at "few"... so far it looks like That was the problem...
If I get the error again, with having Pirates and Monsters at "few" I will say so in this Thread... but for now it looks good.

Good tests and even better you can bypass it now.
This reminds me of the 64 item limit in Xcom a while back but that was due to memory limitations in the 90's
Given how big the universe in DW is having the pirates and monsters on many could just trigger this; if so, starting with the fewest number of systems and empires and having the pirates and monsters to many would be interesting.
If I were to speculate I think the game crashes on these two items because it needs to continously generate / regenerate them, maybe more so than other items.

You may be leading people astray.

An error message could be caused by almost anything in game.

One of mine which was solved was because an AI empire had destroyed a planet. This might not happen in every game, if for example the human player got all the World Destroyers first.

Seperate games can have completely different situations arise. The same error scenario might not always be present.

Admitedly a save game which you can't play anymore is a problem, but would present no problem for Elliot (CodeForce) to Debug as long as the error is repeatable.

I have already sent a save file, yesterday.

And I tested several hours today what configs might work... I tested A LOT. I don't know why you are talking so negative about that... ---> "You may be leading people astray."

I am trying to help, this is no Solution, it is a workaround so people that have the same problem can play the game with other configs, till the bug gets fixed.

I am at year 2883 now and I had not one crash... in the games where I did choose many monsters + pirates I had the error pretty early, at about 2-5 years into the game. So it DOES help a lot.

I still stand by what I said.

And for your info my last game was at Pirates/Space monsters many and didn't have error messages

That is certainly the case since most of the players use Pirates/Space monsters set to max and never encounter this.
Having this setting to max or min seems to be a required but not sufficient condition for this error; as such, this is a good workaround to have and test.
In the end, only Elliot has the complete picture but our efforts to gather as many pieces of that picture helps both him and us.

Well, "distant world programmers" is actually only Elliot so now we see him mostly when a patch is coming.....which is fine by me if that means patches are coming by sunset each day
