Nice to hear people are still playing TF1942. I was co-designer and lead programmer on the project. I've been working at home on a new game that combines 1942: the Pacific Air War and Taskforce: 1942. I wrote both games and have wanted to re-do them both. The engine is mostly written at this point, but the problem is art. I have talked a couple of artists into helping me out, but they lack my enthusiasm to work in my spare time. So although I still work on it, the project will never really go anywhere until I get more art support. Sims aren't seen as big money makers, so I won't get any monetary support unless I've got something pretty much done....

Please, please Matrix Games, write this man a check, or something!!!

Just to add: he's looking for artists dedicated either to PTO or TF1942 willing to give him a hand... And seems to me there are quite a lot of them here

Oh yes, that was really a great game.  I was surprised that this game had no succeeder. I had really a blast with this game altough it was a bit easy to win against the AI. I would have loved to see a version covering the whole war like AE does.

1942: the Pacific Air War is one of the greatest sims. Dynamic campaign was great. There was also lots of nice details like tracer bullets bouncing from aircraft fuselage and ground. You also needed a quick reset finger if you died during campaign.

Well the campaign wasn't that dynamic in 1942:PAW actually - it was a string of pre-made missions that you could all play in the single mission module. But narration was nice enough, and very immersive... Seriously even though I love the Il-2 series, I just don't understand how we are unable today to get any closer to this kind of result with computers hundreds of times more powerful...

The Carrier Battle module was absolutely wonderful, the kind of stress you have during a carrier battle at WitPAE, only twice more intense because of the real time and the fact that you could jump in the cockpit and try to help make a difference.

Yep already discussed on the main forum.

Yankee Pirates might be getting involved - saw a thread about it (I just hope they can come to some agreement)

And then of course a publisher ... cough Matrix can come in and let it ride ;-)
