Installed demo, updated .net and directX. The game launches without any problems, I see the menu, click on a mission and choose my armament. Then, everytime the game loads the mission, I get a CTD.

I checked the gamelog file and I think I found the problem:

The game cannot find the files it needs because it misnames the folders. For instance, it seeks a file under the folder called "ınfantry", while it should look for the folder "Infantry".

That is a problem caused by the Turkish alphabet I think. I use Turkish win7, and in the Turkish alphabet, capital version of the letter 'i' is not 'I' but 'İ'. In other words, 'ı' and 'i' are different letters. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_alphabet

If there is any way to do this, forcing the programme to use capital letters for folders may solve the problem. Or is there any way to tell windows to use different languages for different programs?

edit: I now changed the language of windows from control panel. problem persists.

Well, I think you did diagnose the problem. It may be that the demo will have to be uninstalled using the language you originally had, then reinstalled after changing the windows language. BUT, I'm not sure thats a very good long term solution.

Maybe Erik or one of the other team memeber will have some thoughts.

Thanks for trying, and for letting us know about this issue.

Thanks
rick

Wow, thanks for the report and for figuring this out. I'm not surprised we missed this one, but the installer should have handled it more gracefully. What should fix it for you for now is to chance your language and regional settings to US English temporarily, uninstall, delete the installation folder, reinstall, then change your settings back to Turkish and let us know if that works.

We'll look into what the installer is doing here to solve it if at all possible for the full release.

Regards,

- Erik

Tried now. But changing regional settings to US English caused many more problems with OS, firefox, etc. Even the demo installer refused to launch for some reason. Probably, some core files in the OS are somehow specified in accordance with the region/language settings.

Interestingly, once I changed the settings back to Turkish and re-installed the demo, this time, I managed to launch to the mission, see the 3d map. But once I tried to give an "advance" order to a platoon, got CTD again. Uploading the second log file.

It seems to me that, if the game will 'call' the folders and filenames with small (non-capital) letters, why not naming them in the first instance with all small letters? Currently, first letters of all folders are capital letters and IMO that causes the problem for my case.

Hi Dogancan,

Can you please give this updated demo release a try? Just unzip the files to your demo installation folder please and let us know if it helps with that issue or not.

Regards,

- Erik

nope. chose my armament for the mission and CTD while loading the mission.

Programme looks for the bifbox2.dds file not in the folder named 'industrial' but Industrial with a small 'I'. See the log file attached.

Hi Dogancan,

Unfortunately we're going to have to keep working on this after release. We hope to have a solution in the first update and I hope we'll have another test build for you later this week.

Regards,

- Erik

ctd at that point

here is some of the log file... seems to be an issue with graphics... i read earlier posts about file folders being called with small letters rather than capital first letter, but my log file show it calls correctyl those folders

Hi.... thanks for asking junk2drive
I tried random battles genrator, one i created 9the maus and the cheese), and one i randomly chose from the set battle menu

the one built in set battle

WORKED
!

so, might be an issue
with how the scenario set battle saves as, that perhaps the error checker that checks to make sure the scenarios we make are correct.. could be a file call structure issue with how the editor might be saving

but yes, i did just get a built in set battle to work

problem solved, at least with built in stuff.

From the log filie it appears to have a problem finding the map file for the maus and cheese scenario. If you can zip and attach your scenario file I'll take a look at it and see if I see anything.

Thanks

the idea was to set up a simple engagement of 3 maus and pazershreck team versus 3 JS 3 tanks and flamethrowers, just as a quick set battle, to test the editor and see how cool the game looks... it did save the scenario, so the error checker passed this scenario before saving..
thanks Rick

There is something wrong the the panzerscherck unit. Use a different troop.

It is the winter default panzerscherck that seems to be the problem. Changing the season to summer works. But the map is a wintery map.

Using a text editor change this:
<scenario rod="true" preplanned="Russian" phases="40:40" showinmenu="true" turnlimit="0" vpbonusamt="25" vpbonusturn="10" models="default" victory="0" year="1945" date="06/11/45"

To this:
<scenario rod="true" preplanned="Russian" phases="40:40" showinmenu="true" turnlimit="0" vpbonusamt="25" vpbonusturn="10" models="summer" victory="0" year="1945" date="06/11/45"

The game itself does work, what you're experiencing is something specific to your system configuration.

Can you give us some more information please? It's also helpful to start your own thread if possible. When exactly does it crash? If the demo worked, the only difference between the demo and the main game is that the main game has the serial number check, which requires that the game have access to the registry. Some anti-virus and security software can restrict that access. What are you running for anti-virus and security software?

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks Eric. I found MY (not matrix) errors. I needed to totally erase net 4.0 ,restart with fresh reload (NOT REPAIR) and also repair font and redirect htu file in OST. Game works perfectly! Now I need work on my generalship. Since I own a trillion (aprox.) matrix games I was SURE it was your program. I was wrong.

I have a similar problem, I think.

I made a mission using German names (including the little dots over some of the letters--umlauts) and now the game crashes no matter what mission I try to load. It used to work, but now the whole thing is broken, even though I changed the letters to normal English.

Initially I got .xml errors. No idea.

Your log file should show what unit is the problem. Maybe you missed one umlaut.

No mission, whether I made it or not will load now. It crashes as the scenario loads. No the umlauts are all gone. In fact, the scenario editor will let me save a game w/foreign letters, but I cannot re-load it w/out getting a .xml error.

By the way, that character was replaced, nothing weird now, but the game won't play unless I completely remove that scenario.

Crazy. Just as a warning, don't use German letters!

It seems that after working with Map Maker loading any scenario for play causes a CTD (while it is loading maps). I reinstalled the game, problem solved, but after making some map work again, CTDs reappeared. Any ideas?

Can't see any errors in the log, but the last line is always:

12.6.2011 16:55:27: Current Token: 8d1a2330dcc1fdbfa4b3d858e81243d2

Find the folder for your new map in the Media folder. Move it out of the game folders temporarily. Try the game again.

Assuming you are not using USA English localization, it could be that map maker is using letters or characters that are causing this? Just guessing.

I think I'll try reinstalling .Net 4 next.
