Thanks, Des!

How are you feeling these days?  Gaining some strength back?

Getting better thanks Mike, the Doc's tell me I'm responding well to the treatment. Last test showed that the tumour has gone dormant, and I'm also putting on weight. Problem is that I went down in weight from 86kg to 55kg, and lost a lot of muscle mass too. I'm now up to 63kg in one and a half months, but the legs aren't used to that weight yet. But I'm alive and still kicking, so life is all good.

I know a few of you have at least a passing interest in hockey.  This is for you:  http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=fleming/110511&sportCat=nhl

(35 and 38 are great, but my favorite is 21.  Just hilarious!)

Watching Alien with the DU. (Is there only one alien in it?)

Nein. There's the face sucker, the chest exploder and at least one adult / gravid female phase.

That makes three, not nein.

Post phone interview - Tithe.

I think it went quite well, and hope to get a call back Monday or Tuesday for an onsite interview.

Jolly good, dude. Jolly good. Did they ask you the 'what kind of tree would you be' question?

Good news. I was once asked what superpower I would choose.

Aye. Standard edition? Or special edition? Managed to avoid work long enough the other night to watch all of Aliens (The director's cut version with extra footage as well!)

Afternoon tithe.

Home from 3.5 hrs bicycling ... there isn't much juice left in my legs ...

17 miles here on Friday.

That's a good start... now that you're warmed up what are you going to do?

19 miles on Monday

OK, Scott. You've thrown down the gauntlet. I'm going to try to work my way up to catch you. Maybe 10-12 miles today.....right after I take a nap.

Edit: After a couple of rides on the greenways around here, I got back onto the roads for the first time in forever this past Sunday. It's a completely different pace, and I was burned up after 6.5 miles.

Even if the greenways are mountain bike trails, the philosophy of slowly warming up and listening to your body still remains the same. I have been able to take forty mile rides after not being on the bike for months (but I do tend to get sick after the ride!), just by riding my own pace and not trying to keep up with younger, fitter riders.

"'m sure Brad will laugh, but I've 56 miles ( Half Ironman Tri bike distance) 5 times, with some shorter training rides in the 40's. Two of those rides were in races, after swimming and before running a half marathon of 13.1 miles."

I'm not going to laugh. I can't expect everybody to be a total cycling geek like I was. I lived to ride my bike when I was younger, and that got me into the industry. For the past twenty five years it has been my career, and so I've ridden less. However, I did get into good enough shape to ride a full century for my 50th birthday a few years ago. I promise that if I make the next half century mark (in years) I will not try for the same ratio!

"I can't wait to get back into that kind of shape again!"

Same here... I just want to be in good enough shape to take long enjoyable rides in beautiful country - which often turns out to be difficult terrain for riding.

Speaking of cycling and longevity, check out this article on the Smithsonian Magazine website. I have ridden with Fred back when I was a student at UGA (and he wasn't quite seventy at the time).

sharks can't block shots forever tithe... game 7? guess the pundits said it would happen...

Go Wings!

I guess there are a few Swedes on the Wings, huh?

Personally, I always root against the Red Wings, just like the Yankees in Baseball. I like the Sharks, but picked and have been rooting for the Canucks since the beginning of the playoffs. I'd like to see a Tampa Bay/Vancouver finals, with Vancouver winning Lord Stanley's Cup.

exactly...teams that i root against, no matter who they are playing...Yankee's, Lakers, Red Wings, Cowboys, Gators (i just realized that these choices are mostly because of the caliber and character of their fans! )...the fact that the Wings are one game away from an epic comeback is particularly galling......well, let the rum flow tomorrow night! either in jubilent celebration or drowning sorrow...

I'm with you there. I find it strangely enjoyable to see that one of the teams playing in Baltimore when the bomb goes off in "Sum of All Fears" happens to be named the Gators!!!!

Sharks win!!!

Now, I will be rooting against them (as I am hoping to see Vancouver win the Cup.)  Which ever team wins that series will be my pick in the Finals against the Boston/Tampa Bay winner.

It should have been super power and I chose time travel. And I did get the job.

Did you use your super power to travel back in time and retrospectively fix that bollocksed answer of yours in order to get the job?

Time travel is a pretty safe super power pick. One could make a fortune on the stock market, divest ahead of wars or market crashes and identify new trends or bubbles for what they were.

Super speed (e.g., The Flash) is cool too-I imagine that he'd be a very good base stealer in baseball or wide receiver in football. Super strength (e.g., Superman)? Can't go wrong there. Think of the nutritional 'supplements' market and home gyms that this guy could pitch!

I'm wondering about XRay vision myself. Would I ever get tired of leering all the time? Probably not.

I think you'd need the time travel super power just to get back what you wasted on the x-ray/super perv power.

Isn't that like the classic 'wishing for more wishes' from the Djin? Fine-then I'll pick demigod omnipotence as my 'super power'. That's a bundled service that comes with XRay vision, time travel, communicating with animals (overrated, IMO-lazy buggers), super strength and just about any other singular power you can think of.

By the way, you don't need x-ray vision to have the super perv power.

Not the ability to turn people who ask those sorts of questions in a job interview into cheese?

Hi all,

How are things Nik?

How is new job?

Leo "Apollo11"

It is going well.......the feedback i've gotten is that my two bosses think i'm the greatest thing since sliced bread. Yesterday i became the official "Mac-master" as though it's a 99.5% PC environment....a couple users have Mac's and want to be able to connect to their network drives and stuff from home. Since my resume said i "spoke Mac", i was the go-to guy.

On the con side.......i remain restricted to part time hours and simply can't live off it. If it continues to be this way i may have to go elsewhere, even if it means not doing IT anymore.

I have had some peaks and valley's over the last 2.5 months of hunting.  Right now, I'm at a peak, hoping to get good news on Monday or Tuesday.  I'm going to ride it all weekend!

It's a jungle out there, Kiddies.  Have a very fruitful day!
