It was taken from one of the offices of a grain company in Kansas City. I am not actually there at present. We do a lot of business with them..

I've seen clouds like those in Dallas, Nebraska and (several times) up here. They make me feel sick to my stomach. Portents of doom. "Tornado weather". Me no likee.

I could sit on the porch at one of the farms and watch the storms come and go all night, but I also respect mother nature and know when to head inside.

Hey Dixie, you mentioned Silent War earlier. Is it any good? I've been considering getting it...

If you've got the time then I'd definately say so, I'm playing it on Cyberboard so I can just save it when the wee man is up and about. Plenty of counters (one for each US sub in the Pacific) if you're into that sort of thing, different campaigns including a War Plan Orange type scenario, optional rules for Dutch and British subs as well as a few what-if type subs, FFS Surcouf, U-2513 and the US scheme-17 boats.

It's also damn frustrating at times. I've got 4 weeks to sink 50k tons of shipping, having taken 7 weeks to sink 40k it looks like this campaign is going to end sooner rather than later unless I get some lucky breaks. The torps suck so bad at the start that it's not funny, most of the subs can't hit anything other than an almost stationary target and even if they do hit it usually takes another attack to sink them if the escorts don't come charging along.

Anything in particular you wanted to know about?

The worst I've seen were over Lawton, Oklahoma. I did my observations from weather stations near airfields. No storm chasing for me, some of those folks are even unpaid volunteers.

I did manage a 150 gram weather balloon launch in 38 gusting to near 50 knot wind. We used the lee of a tree and a shroud so the balloon crew had handles to hold on to. The release literally snatched the radiosonde from the crewmember's hand fast enough that battery popped through the hatch. Fortunately it maintained contact and we got a good flight out of it.

No, just generally interested. I've found a VASSAL module for it, and was thinking about getting the game so I can actually play it.

I have never watched Avatar from beginning to end...however Stephen Lang is in another movie that I have watched 100s of times....wonder what it could be... I'll give you a hint

Tom Berenger had a beautiful beard in it.

Carl Spackler: So I jump ship in Hong Kong and I make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas.

Angie D'Annunzio: A looper?

Carl Spackler: A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I like to think that that wasn't part of the script but you never know.

On second thought, Tom Berenger wasn't in Dukes of Hazard. I must have been wrong.

ETA: Sorry for the redundant post and 'quoting' myself. Looks like I may have inadvertently posted this image again.
