ORIGINAL: JWE Good morning. And good wishes/memories for Memorial Day. Didn't get a puppy. The Springer Rescue people came up with a perfect youngster, and I fetched him from Birmingham yesterday. Don't know why they thought of me, but they were right on the money. Name was Beau. That didn't float my boat too much, so I added a sylable and he's now Beaudy. Poor thing was a mess; overweight, bladder stones, dermatitus, ear infections, and hip dysplasia. In and out of adoption several times, nobody wanted to keep him once they found he couldn't go running with them. His foster mom cleaned him up real nice and put him on doggie weight watchers (he's down to a nice lean 45 lbs). The Rescue vet took out the bladder stones, got rid of the dermatitus and ear infections. The dysplasia ain't that big a deal. I don't run, rather I mosey, and I don't mind having to help him onto the bed. Have had him for about 18 hours now and he's settled in so perfectly it seems like he's been part of the family forever. Friends, and neighbors, meet Beaudy. Thought this would be sort of appropriate for Memorial Day. Today we remember absent friends; a day to recall those that were lost and honor and remember their life as it was, and what their existence gave to us. I often marvel at God's purpose, especially in the least of things. Through loss, there is often gain. Loss seriously adjusts our attitude and, if confronted right, makes us "get it". Gain is the opportunity to take what we have learned and do something positive with it. Such a small thing (in the grand scheme of things) like losing a dog and finding another, has made me think more clearly about my absent friends. To those who have served and lost companions, my respects and sympathy. Remember them always. All the rest of us are with you in spirit on this Memorial Day. Regards. John Welcome to the family, Beaudy! John, he may not be good for running with you, but would he be able to swim well enough to lay around on a boat with you?
