Dec. 1, 1939

To celebrate this Christmas season we have captured 2 oil fields to help fill the fuel tanks of our hungry armies.
Things are progressing nicely on the Mizhi peninsula as the PRC armies are squeezed between our fearsom troops and those of the mighty Germania!

(Low res satellite map of battlefield... ie I forgot to take an in game screen shot!)

Hi Barthheart. See my PMs both here and at wargamer. Sorry for the delay everyone, not really sure why my email is not working now. I've been getting other PBEMs no problem but not any of the ATG games I'm involved in. Weird...

If this email doesn't work again I'll PM you an alternate over on the wargamer.

Well now that my email problem has been sorted out...

Soviet troops sit idle this week as war rages all around their borders. Stalin has adopted a wait and see attitude. Meanwhile people are turning in their scraps for recycling at the weapons factories.

Unfortunately I keep forgetting to take screenshots during my turn, and I'm afraid if I open an old save ATG will think I'm cheating. So my next AAR post will be pending my next turn. :)

After some technical difficulties we're off and running again.....

Jan 1. 1940

Advance on the Mizhi peninsula front goes well as the enemy pulls back from our fearsome troops. Soon we will be at the gates of Mizhi itself.
Our glorious airforce continues to rain death from above on Mizhi.

Our outlying colonies are holding up well but enemy tanks have been spotted! We are preparing a suitable welcome....

Soviet troops continue to position themselves near the Russo-German border. No shots fired as men with angry faces and rifles pointing in all directions stare at each other from across the lines. See image below for a snapshot of the overall situation.

Feb. 1, 1940

Snow in the northern climes and mud across the central part of the planet.

Not much happening because of the weather.... preparing for spring.

No pictures either because the war jounalist's plane was ground because of the bad weather.

Stalin's organ spits out death as Katyushas open a surprise barrage against German troops in the salient near the city of Roth. After about 45 minutes of ferocious bombardment the rocket tubes are expended and the tanks and troops of the Soviet army leave their jump off points. The line is smashed and all along the front the 'Mongol hordes' advance. Stavka is pleased as the reports come filtering in from various local commanders.

Russian reconnaissance flights are able to fly despite the weather and provide the situational image below:

Treachery!

Kaiser Republic addresses the Empire:

Yesterday February 1, 1940 the Fatherland's Imperial forces were suddenly and deliberately attacked by the Soviet Union. Stalin has proven once again that not only can his own people trust him, the world community cannot trust him. We call upon all free peoples to stand alone together, with us.

Still the rains hamper operations in the Mizhi Peninsula so not much happening except build up for dryer weather....

In the extreme West however a chance was taken on a weak spot in the enemy lines. First artillery teh divebombers softened up the poor sots sitting in the snow. Then our troops swept out of their warm bunkers and smashed through the line. With only enemy officers and cooks blocking the way our troops continued on in to the enemy city of Xinji!

One of the captured officers was interigated and told of still having to report to their Supreme HQ for supplies and orders. This could account for all teh interdicted supplies just off the coast and the poor state of their troops.

Attack was also made on northern end of the line with similar results.

March 1, 1940 cont.

In more daring exploits our navy's Cruisers cleared the seas of no less than 7 enemy destroyers allowing for a heroic commando raid on the main supply rail line leading out of the enemy capitol. This should hamper his operations for the next month.

No just kidding... little April fools joke there.....anyway....

With the improved weather lots happening:

PRC HQ in the west destroyed and other troops surrendering in droves.

Central Frontline breached in several places. PRC tanks one east flank pause unexpectedly.... curious....

Mizhi Peninsula - Mizhi bombing campaign picks up again. PRC Crusier sunk at anchor in Meizhou harbour. Peninsula cutoff from PRC central command.

(No pictures even though the weather was fine. Pilot asleep at the switch. Pilot now minus a head)

Well now the situation is interesting indeed.

Soviet offensive stalls just outside Roth as German troops are moved in from the China front. Heavy fighting reported near the Roth city area but no breakthroughs achieved. The defense holds firm.

STAVKA has begun reorganizing the forces arrayed against Germany.

After heavy air and artillery bombardment the heavily dug in PRC troops guarding a raw mine and pushed out by combined infantry and armoured forces.
Also Meizhou is captured without a shot. PRC forces in this area are going to have to rely on Mizhi for supplies now.

May 1940

Soviet forces continue to filter through holes in the line and take raw materials to the north of Roth.

The second offensive against Roth itself begins as well. At 03:45 the gods of war speak (artillery barrage) and pour their thunderous voices onto the German defenses in the Roth area. At 04:30 the Penal Battalions spring into action and absorb many German bullets for Uncle Joe. These dregs of Soviet society have been re-educated and chant "We love Stalin!" repeatedly as they speed to their deaths. War is cruel on the Eastern front however these men do not die in vain. They clear a path in the outer defenses for the regulars who follow up at 04:58. Despite their machinegun barrels overheating the Germans are able to hold fast against the vicious onslaught. Manstein, the master of defense, commands the enemy troops in this area. STAVKA will have to try again once more forces are brought in.

Another push is simultaneously launched just south of Roth. Smoke, cordite, flesh and blood fill the air with a foul stench and the defenses fall. The horde continues to assemble as more men are brought into this nightmare. The bright blue clear sky turns ash and grey as the battles continue to rage. Confused men on both sides wonder aloud if the end of the world is approaching, but everyone continues to perform their duties admirably. Rail communication to Roth severed.

These battles are so fierce that what little intelligence is gathered is quickly locked tight and stamped Top Secret.

Reports from the front continue to bombard the Kremlin. Stalin simply pours more vodka into his glass and continues sipping while he reads the dossiers.

German soldiers have ended the northern campaign to mop up Binzhou. We nolonger have to fight a two front war so near the Fatherland. The bulk of the German armies are now being moved to the western front. At this point about 1/4 of Germania's finest have been able to hold off the entirety of the Soviet onslaught. Once Steiner's northern forces arrive in the west, it is hoped that we shall push on into the Soviet countryside liberating the Russian peoples one hex at a time.

Germany cannot thank the Japanese Empire enough for their regular swift and decisive pulses into Comintern territory. The citizens of Nabburg have declared the month of May to be "Emperor Barthheart Appreciation Month" due to the efforts of Japanese forces to keep isolated Nabburg out of communist hands.

Western and Central colonies move to link up into one colony to help face PRC hoards pouring over the border. One of our colonial ore deposits is surrounded and has become an indefencable position. With reluctance we withdraw....

Mizhi carpet bombed by IJA level bombers aiming for the garrison barracks, hitting many. Frontline pushed to outskirts of Mizhi itself.

Pictures because of censors heavy hand......

June 1940

Battles continue to rage outside and inside Roth. The quality of the German soldier was underestimated by STAVKA. More forces continue to pour into this cauldron of death.

A mournful Kaiser Republic appears before an awaiting crowed.

"Years from now there will be many statues and memorials to the soldiers who have defended the city of Roth. Alone they have stood against the Soviet menace. The city of Roth remains because of those brave few. If you have not done so yet, enlist today, the Fatherland needs you. To the soldiers of Roth...help is on the way."

With an heroic push our glorious tropps have taken Mizhi! All that's left here are some disorganized constripts to round up.

Our Western Colony pushes to join with the Central Colony.

The Central Colony troops push southwest while still trying to hold back ever increasing PRC troops advancing from the east.... will the Western Colony troops arrive in time???
