Hey Dixie, how do you like the combat system in Silent War? I've been studying the manual, and it seems relatively straightforward, but I'd like your opinion.

Just finished watching Julius Caesar on an Aldis lamp last night. The haunting recantation of 'click...click...click...click click click...' after being stabbed by Brutus was gripping.

I prefer Wuthering Heights on Semaphore Flags. It's the romantic in me...

Once you're used to it it's a good simple system, it's fairly easy to fly through a convoy encounter quite quickly. Half a dozen dice rolls isn't too bad to sort out most contacts. Abstract enough to be quick, but detailed enough that the battles don't all feel the same.
Having said that, it's bloody frustrating when you manage to hit a 20t troopship only to see the torpedo bounce off I believe that the mechanics are pretty much the same in Steel Wolves with a slight difference in setting up the convoys.

I'm into August 1942 in my game, Spearfish is leading the charts with 53k tons of ships sunk.

A 20 ton troopship hardly seems to be worth the torpedo...

Either way, it looks pretty simple from here, so I'm looking forward to trying it.

And a lot of rain would help.

Actually I had been alluding to the religious place sometimes obliquely referred to as hades. But I guess MP will do. Or even Chicago!
