I see that cavalry can be found in the compare option, but still not available in the research option in V2.05, or am I missing something?

It is available to me. If you are using NATO symbols the original release had no Cav. There was a fix for that.

Doesn't it upgrade with the rifle tech (like paratroopers should

Yes I believe so I am pretty sure I have Cav III now along with rifle III.

I suspect you are using my NATO Counters Mod before I fixed the missing cav unit. Download/install the latest version and you'll get the cavalry unit.

I reinstalled v2.05 and still no cavalry in research screen option. Is there a more current version, and where is it?

Your current save game file is basically a customized scenario. Reinstalling the v2.05 mod will not add cavalry to that game. It is only when you create a new random game that you will see cavalry available.

I did create a new random game, and cavalry are still not in the research options; however, the first level can be found in the production screen. large map>mirrorish>1town>stoneage> wet world>full climate>regular AI game>no cavalry in research field.

Cavalry isn't a stand alone tech. It is part of Rifle/SMG tech. Buy Rifle II get Cavalry II as a freebie.

Iron Knight is correct. There is no stand alone cavalry research option. As he states, when you upgrade you rifle tech, your cav is upgraded also.
