I was testing an scenario that I’m designing and the following happened:

I had placed a French defensive position consisted in heavy machineguns and ATG.

Germans started the attack with some PzIII and a PzGd Mech. Plt.

When I moved the German units within the area covered by French weapons I was surprised that only the ATG opened fire … no HMG fired! (and they were there … I had placed there!)

After a few turns I realized that HMG only starting fire to my infantry when I download it from the HT! But no French HMG spent a single bullet neither with my PzIII nor with my HT. In fact, I realize that the following use to happen: I had a HT and a Rifle sqd. In the same hex, and there was a couple of French HMG say five hexes from them … if I fired to one of them with the HT, none of them answered fire … but as soon as I started to shot with the Rifle sqd … both of them started to fire back to my men!

Then I modified the scenario and changed the PzGd Mech Plt for a MOTOR one.
This time, the HMG opened fire against my Trucks as soon as they saw them … causing serious casualties among my troops!

I have been playing SPWaW since a long time … but I had never realized about HMG ignoring armor targets and firing only soft ones … is this a new feature in 7.x? or was always there and I had never noticed it?

Why? It suposse that they're not firing because they don't has AP capacity? So your theroy is that units that do not has AP capacity do not fire at all against armor targets? That is good!

I have made some test with the Russians and I found that the 7.6 Maxim HMG do not fire to my armor units, while the 12.7Dksh does (those 12.7Dksh actualy can kill a light tank or a HT)

Yeah, Gallo. A 12.7mm round is hefty and could penetrate that early war armor. The DshK MG (or whatever) is SWEET when in the hands of a veteran crew. I love that sound. Plus watching a German squad evaporate as they advance singing their silly Panzer songs.
