Good call re Danny Dyer and who is the girlie commandette third from the left?

Presumably the spy... Wikipedia has told me everything I need to know about the film. Deadly German secret weapon could change the course of the war!

quote:

Age of Heroes follows the exploits of Corporal Rains (Danny Dyer) as he is inducted into the newly formed 30 Commando unit in World War II. Rains and the rest of the platoon are put through intensive training under the watchful eye of Major Jones (Sean Bean), where their skills and endurance are pushed to the limit as they prepare for their first highly classified and dangerous mission: to parachute into occupied Norway and capture deadly new radar technology from the Germans which could change the outcome of the war.

The newly formed band of brothers are joined in their task by local insurgent Steiner (Aksel Hennie) and beautiful spy Jensen (Izabella Miko). All their lethal commando skills are put to the test as they attempt to rescue Norwegian villagers, escape fierce gun battles and attain the radar technology from Nazi commander Teichman (Eric Madsen). Their plan is thrown into crisis when their pick-up is delayed and they must fight their way to the border of Sweden. With the Nazis desperate to hunt them down and stop them, the commandos realise how important their mission is to the war effort, as the fate of the Allies' advance into Europe rests in their hands. After a long trek in the snow the commandos try to re supply by exploring a farm which unfortunately is shown to be empty. To make things worse the Germans catch up with them at the farm with one of the commandos captured alive during an earlier fire fight. The Germans ask for their surrender in exchange for the life of their captured friend as well as their own. However the commandos refuse to surrender and choose to fight to the end and open fire on the Germans and this begins an intense fire fight. The spy Jensen and the liaison are ordered to rush to Swedish border while the rest of the commandos provide cover for them to escape. Eventually Major Jones realizes that there are too many of them and they do not have enough ammo to hold out much longer. So he orders commandos Rains and Steiner to run for the border while Major Jones along with fellow commando Mackenzie stay to cover them however they are not seen again after been shown continually firing and suppressing the Germans it is presumed that they are overrun and killed or taken captive. The Germans catch up to Rains and Steiner retreating and Steiner is shot and killed. With no ammo, Rains prepares to use his knife to kill himself so the Germans cannot torture the truth out of him. However before he does Jensen and the liaison return and kill enough of the pursuing Germans to allow the three of them to escape. Eventually after eluding the Germans they make it to Sweden having achieved their objective though it cost the lives of fine commandos. The last scene shows the three surviving commandos heading down a hill into Sweden.

To be fair, the war was 29 years ago. I don't remember anyone in 1974 refering to WWII as "very recent". Maybe because we'd had so many in between times.

Alleged? I never "allege" though i have been known to mislead enemy agents when i was out in the field. I am afterall, a trained deception specialist and during my time with the Viet Minh I helped set up the ambush and artillery pattern at Dien Bien Phu. On this board I am always factual however, and never lie. You can be assured the Ju-847 was real. In fact I saw it during a brief stint at Area 51. If the Germans had built more of them then England would never have to worry about the Fauklands because they would be German owned and controlled....because in addition to it's bomb load which is highly generous....the plane is also amphibious, and was in fact the basis for Jude Law's "diving P-40" in the movie "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow."

Those pesky Allies, we only won the war by cheating and not letting Germany develop their new uber-weapon. Imagine, using actual real world weapons that worked to win the war!

It's where I'd deploy my new secret ground-breaking deadly weapon/radar. Because hiding it in Germany surrounded by the elite of the German army is too obvious. I'm impressed that they managed to make a deadly radar technology (sinister music).

Yeah, you wouldn't want to use it where the bomber streams are.

I can only surmise that it would function much like modern radar, but instead of using it to find things the operation would differ. In a series of low level overflights of the UK (in the new Amerika-bomber no doubt, possibly flown by the real Rudolf Hess) the Luftwaffe would subject all the men in the British Isles to the deadly radar waves. Initially this would leave them sterile for six months, but a second overflight after that time would increase that to a further year. Then as 1944 dawns a third wave would see the entire population left sterile, thus causing the population of the UK to die out in just 50-60 years

Well he is a certified cockney geezer, innit (copyright Danny Dyer, 2007) He also has a wide range of charcters, such as Cockney geezer, a geezer from the East end of London (or possibly Lahndan), and even a working class geezer from London.

But that's not the main point. Sure, to some it is old hat, while to others it is as clear today as it was in 1982. To me personally, it feels like yesterday. Either way, the vast majority of servicemen that lost friends and colleagues or were injured in the war are still alive today, as are most relatives of those that died. Therefore, to even contemplate given up the Falklands is a momumental act of utter betrayal.

In other news, I'm getting well acquainted with Steel Wolves. Like Brother Dixie said, once you get to know the rules, they make good sense, and the turns flow well (I'm about half-way through the fifth weekly turn, first week of October 1939).

In the first four weeks, 33 enemy ships totalling 162,000 tons have been sunk for the loss of one U-Boat. The biggest prize was the British carrier HMS Courageous, sunk by Otto Kretschmer in the North Sea.
