Hello,

We encounter serious problems when using the pbem mode of the game (version 7.1). The fact is that the retreat/reinforcment hexes are very often, almost always, on the bad side i.e. the troops retreat towards the ennemy ... which you will probably agree with me is not an easy way ton win a war.
The maps are self made maps, they are totally fine in the editor, in solitaire play and by simulating an opponent on the same computer. When attempting to play by e-mail, once the files have been sent, the flags are on the wrong side in 90% of the cases.
Can someone explain that and above all is someone able to resolve this issue ? Heeeeeelp !

David

I made an attempt to get an answer to this problem a few months ago. It seems that the game prefers the retreat hexes on a specific side depending on the nationallities playing. Redleg replied to a post in the spwaw forum for scenarios and campaign games. His post said to set the map and game up the way you want to play and save as a dummy scenario. Completely exit spwaw. Load and check map to see if all is correct. Exit game again. Load and set up pbem game. You can zip the files after your buy and then take a peek by going thru the player two buy and deploy phases( you do not need to buy or deploy anything) to check your deploy screen to see if all is correct. If not start again:(

I have not yet tried this yet and he mentioned that it did not always work. One way I have gotten around it when my opponent wants to switch sides on one of my maps is to take the nationality that retreats to that side and then switch nationallity in the buy phase to get the force we want. You do end up with a odd HQ unit, but if that gets into the battle then you will other things to worry about than what weapons it has.:)

Sorry this is not more help but it is up to the game designers to fix this one.

Bit of a follow up to the retreat hex saga. I discovered something that all may know but I will put it out there anyway. I build maps for my friend and I to play on that are 100x200 so that we meet on the diagonal since we both like to maneuver. One problem with using the maps in a battle is that the retreat hexes would show up on the top sides of the map around row 20. So even when they were on the right side it was still a problem for the player that started in a bottom corner. In a moment of insight which are rare in my case, while building a battle using a 'custom map as designed' I set the map size buttom from it's default 'small map' to 100x200 and lo and behold the retreat hexes are now at row 100. :) They are not where I had set them on the map but it is a far cry better than where they had been showing up.

Second is that I worked with the sequence that Redleg suggested and the retreat hexes did show up on the right side. I am one for one and I will take it!

ok that means that by designing the map you have to use the nations, year, month and deploy you think will be used further in the pbem game.
Thanks !
