...at least, it's hard to see how it could be a 'feature.'

I was deploying some units with the riverine icon consisting of 18 ferry squads, intended to represent ferries across the Tigris and Euphrates.

They went into major rivers and rivers just fine -- but won't deploy into 'Suez Canal' or canal hexes.

As a note, I wouldn't fix this without reflection, as the work-around isn't exactly hard -- use rivers rather than canals if you want to permit riverine movement on a given body of water.

Conversely, the current inability of riverine units to enter canal hexes creates an easy way to block navigation beyond a point -- just make the 'river' canal for one hex.
