It would certailny tie in with the past 10 days I've had:

�650 on car insurance.
�2,300 on new boiler.
�250 on new oven.
�1,300 on yearly maintenance fee for flat.

Not had much luck recently IRL and now it seems in AE

There is always a slight chance that any damaged ship can experience catastrophic damage and sink. It is very slight but you are proof that it happens. It can represent any sort of accident that could happen when a damaged ship is moves and I think historically correct. From temporary bulkheads failing, or a critical system breakdown such as losing the plant and therefore the pumps, or even just running into the occasional big storm that might do in a weakened hull. I like it and think it is a great design feature-as long as it does not happen to me.

Hi all,

End of month report......other than the VETY FRUSTRATING loss of Hornet not a lot to report. Most of my ships are in port repairing (CV Yorktown/Lexington/Enterprise) or upgrading.

Looks as though Faber is starting something potentially in China again. Not a real problem right now as supply is ok and forts are pretty high everywhere. This is due to a lot of inactivity by the Japanese for about 9 months now.

Wuchow was taken by the Japanese on the 29th. I have over 1000 additional AV moving down to counter this. I could send 2000 more down if needed.

No action in CentPac, Aus or Burma so the main action is again by my Submarines.

Submarine Warfare -

10 x dud/missed attacks!

SS Cisco damaged TK Otowasan Maru off Formosa with a torpedo.

SS Whale blew up PB Wa 6 off Toyohara on the 26th May.

SS Cisco was in action again on the 28th heavily damaging TK Amagi Maru #2.

SS Kingfish left the Fuel laden TK Goyo Maru heavily burning off Balikpapan with a torpedo.

SS Perch sank AK Tsuyama Maru with 2 torpedoes off Davao on the 31st.

On the other side..........

SS Porpoise was detected by a Military TF off Bandjermasin and sunk with all hands lost.

SS I-170 found my PH bound AO convoy and sank AO Millicoma. In return she was sunk by the escorts.

SS I-172 sank SC-700 from my ASW TF looking for her west of PH.

Hi all,

A fairly quiet month which is unsurprising post a large CV Battle. Most of my major ships spent time heading back to ports for R&R. Hornet sank (grrrr) on it's way back but everything else is ok so far.

The rest of the Theatre's were fairly quiet with forces preparing for upcoming invasions.

Toweards the end of May Faber started another offensive in SW China which took Wuchow and is heading to Kweilin.

June sees the arrival of more P40E/N FG's, several C46A Transports at Ledo and the production of P38H's, P39N1's, B25G's and a plethora of other less significant aircraft

93 ships arrive this month including CVL Independence, 2 x CVE, 3 x Fleet Subs and oodles of transports, freighters, escorts and a couple of cruisers. On land 70th USA Inf Div and 1st Cavalry (spec) Div arrive.

I am surprised that Faber has such a weak position in China. It is the one theater where Japan is really the master of its fate and the Allied player has little control over. If he has sat quiet for 9 months then your Chinese forces should be way too strong for him to move very far. I think this is much more critical than his losses in the Pacific as you are in an excellent position for offensive moves in China and to start pounding his industry at a very early stage from foward Chinese air bases.

crsutton - agreed. I have a pretty strong position in China now and I've stated in mails to Faber that I'd be surprised if he can make a lot of progress now without reinforcement from other areas. Over the past 10 days the Chinese have fought back using some of my 3000 reserve troop AV. The Japanese, after taking Wuchow, advanced NW towards Kweilin. Chinese forces had moved SE from Kweilin to meet them. The Japanese launched an ambitious and over-confident attack on the 8th with the vanguard of their force:

Been fairly quiet overall as my major ships repair in port. Ironically the last CV Battle we had, despite being a clear Allied Victory, will have delayed my upcoming offensives in SwPac by upto 3 months as I need CV's to cover the landings! As such it wll likely mean when they kick off it will be a manic time as as soon as they're done CentPac offensives will begin using the same CV's and an offensive from India will be launched as well...........ETA October/November 1943.

SS Tautog reported blowing up AKL Shoryu Maru south of Tokyo.

SS Greenling sank PB Okuyo Maru #2 with 2 torpedoes SE of Takao on the 7th.

SS Salmon damaged AO Toei Maru off Wakkanai with a torpedo. In return my sub was damaged by an E Class escort.

SS Sculpin sank SC CHa-17 off Sapporo on the 10th.

On the other side SS I-1 sank AP President Polk with 3 torpedoes SW of PH. My galant ship had been repairing damage at Wake and had bravely limped all the way back to PH before being sunk.

SS Hake sank AK Kizan Maru off Kanoya on the 11th.

SS Peto reported sinking AK Midori Maru off Dadjangas on the 12th. The next day she damaged AP Horai Maru off Davao.

SS Shad, patrolling in the same area as Peto, located a Tanker convoy and sank TK Kuroshio Maru with 3 torpedoes.

SS Barb damaged AK Pacific Maru off Balikpapan on the 14th. She tracked the ship and finished her off on the 15th. Later in the day she sank PB Takunan Maru #8 escorting the original convoy.

SS Peto damaged TK Bokuei Maru off Balikpapan on the 16th.

SS Albacore reported in sinking PB Musashi Maru near Truk on the 18th.

Hi Mike - I hope it has! I got a bit over-ambitious with the Chinese in the past 10 days as my force heading SE of Kanshien reached strong Japanese defensive positions in good terrain. I attacked, got a bloody nose (4000 vs 800 casualties) and started to withdraw to Kanshien. My boys did well though in rebuffing a Japanese counter-attack (situation screenshot below).

I also attacked NE of Wuchow on the 29th. Another miserable failure. I must remember not to be offensive with the Chinese:

The happy time continues.........

7 dud/missed attacks:

SS Haddock, patrolling SW of Japan sank AK Erie Maru on the 21st.

SS Runner damaged TK Huzisan Maru with a torpedo off Manado on the 22nd.

The good efforts continued on the 22nd by SS Trigger damaging AO Shiriya off Toyohara.

SS Sargo also reported in heavily damaging TK Gosyu Maru with a torpedo off Sapporo.

On the 22nd SS Runner was back in action sinking AK Kuwayama Maru with 3 torpedoes.

SS Sunfish also reported sinking AK Kamogawa Maru with 2 torpedoes off Makkasar.

On the 23rd SS Blackfish reported sinking TK Kyokuyo Maru with 2 torpedoes off Jolo.

SS KXVII left DD Oyashio heavily damaged with a torpedo off Donggala.

SS Sculpin tagged CL Kashii off Toyohara and later in the day put another torpedo into her....she wasn't finished yet though.............!

On the next day SS Pickerel found the limping CL Kashii and put another torpedo into her! She must have sunk (strangely reported on the ships sunk screen as being sunk by a 6" shell! WTF. Must remember to add her to my sub list!)

SS Lapon damaged AK Koki Maru with a torpedo off the Palau's..........

On the 25th SS Seadragon heavily damaged AK Kansai Maru off Soerabaja. In return she was damaged by escorts and returned to Aus for repair.

On the next day SS Amberjack found ther same convoy and left AK Teimei Maru heavily listing.

SS Sargo reported sinking AKL Zuiho Maru off Toyohara.

SS Pickerel sunk AKL Korei Maru with a torpedo off Wakkanai on the 27th.

SS Pargo sank AK Taifuku Maru off Orchid Island.

Later in the day SS Muskallunge blew up TK Akebono Maru with 3 torpedoes off Jesselton.

On the 30th SS Seal damaged AO Naruto with a torpedo off Balikpapan. The escorts launched a heavy search and left SS Seal heavily damaged limping to Aus.

A good 10 day period, in summary:

July sees some new shiny toys arriving - P47D2's and P40N1/5's for the US, new Wellies for Britis and Kittyhawks and Beau's for Aus.

My US Navy also expands significantly - CV Bunker Hill, Lexington II, Yorktown II, CVL Princeton and Belleau Wood, CA Baltimore, CL Mobile, 3 x Fleet SS, oodles of auxiliaries and escorts

If they are still in the reinforcement queue, you can. First go to the ship reinforcement screen. Then click on their name so you get the ship details. On ship detail screen, their name should be in yellow. Click on it and give them any name you like. This works for every ship with a II behind it's name.

I want badass names. Executor is good enough, the Chimera is emblematic too, but one ends up shot from the sky by a kamikaze, and the latter's admiral falls to some backstabbing ****, and then gets captured later on (albeit a relatively short period) by the enemy. Not sure this is what you are expecting as a fate for them

There's always "Reprisal" if you're particularly annoyed with the Japanese - extra points for the fact that they were actually planning to name one of them that, just never quite got around to it.

After consideration. I discarded the name USS Whupass and then used the following names. Yellow Jacket, Bumble Bee, Mud Daubber, Black Widow and Scorpian.

I think it's spelled scorpion, not scorpian.

The first 10 days of July pass by fairly uneventfully. Damn Sitzkreig

My Major ships are all nearing repair completion now. CV Enterprise left Seattle and arrived at San Fran on the 7th. She's waiting for Lexington to finish her repairs (7 days left) where she'll leave with Lex/Sara/Independence for PH

Fairly quiet elsewhere other than Faber sending a small re-supply convoy to Milne Bay which was bombed by Mitchells from Australia. 2 Freighters were left heavily damaged and burning.

Submarine Warfare -

7 Dud/missed attacks.

SS Muskallunge reported in sinking TK Ogura Maru #1 north of Jesselton on the 1st.

SS Hake sank TK Hoyo Maru over 2 attacks south of Kanoya.

SS KXVII sank AKL Nichiryo Maru off Balikpapan.

SS Hake was in action again on the 7th damaging TK Akatsuki Maru with a torpedo.

SS Perch sank AKL Nitian Maru with a torpedo off Talaud-Eilanden.

SS Billfish heavily damaged AK Yuri Maru with a torpedo off Kendari.

Hi all,

Another regular 10 day update.....we're nearing the time when my forces will begin moving again as most of my major ships finish repairs and upgrades.

Lex, Sara and Big E, 2 x CVL & Co left San Fran on the 18th July bound for PH. They'll meet Yorktown there when she comes out of the shipyard in 5 days. Bunker Hill, Executor and Chimera will be coming through the Panama Canal in the next 2 weeks. Then the fun can begin again

Submarine Warfare -

(3 days worth of action not noted unforunately).

11 dud/missed attacks!

SS S-34 left the oil laden TK San Clemente Maru heavily damaged and burning off Toyohara on the 11th.

SS S-42 sank the troop filled AK Sugiyama Maru with 3 torpedoes west of Japan on the 15th. Later in the day she damaged another troop laden AK Hakusika Maru with a torpedo.

On the same day SS Drum sank AKL Tonegawa Maru with 2 torpedoes off SW Japan.

SS Sturgeon heavily damaged AK Fuso Maru with a torpedo off Chichi-jima.

On the 18th SS Swordfish reported sinking AK Seia Maru west of Manila.

On the 20th SS S-39 blew up PB Kaika Maru SW of Rangoon.

SS Muskallunge damaged the Tonan Whaler TK Nisshin Maru north of Jesselton with a torpedo.

Speedy: I'm a bit late to this parade. What's up with your lack of air combat (as witnessed by your very low air-to-air losses)? I guess both of you must be quite conservative in the air game, which is not bad, just different.

Also, tough luck on the Hornet but I think you have free reign of the seas after that CV battle.

I named one of my CVs the Deathbeast. I've also named them after Nimitz carriers. In terms of lesser ships with a "II," there's places I've lived for the CAs/CLs and names of friends and relatives for the xAKs.

Hi Commander Cody,

Main reason for the low air activity at present is the lack of available 'conflict areas'. By that I mean that only Burma, China and northern Aus are in proximity to both airforces. Burma I'm not attackign in at present as I want to have a more modern airforce than just using Hurri's. This situation will change within 4 months though as I begin a Burma offensive.

China is a no go as I can't sustain an air campaign there (Faber bombs daily all over there).

Northern Aus is no mans land. Faber controls Darwin, Katherine and Port Hedland. The problem is the bases in central Aus can't obtain enough supply to hold airforces therefore the Japanese held bases are out of reach.

I bomb Port Hedland to keep it closed 2 out of 3 days by 4E from Carnarvon. This is to aid in an upcomign operation over the next 2 months.

CentPac - the distances involved mean LBA can't really operate my end.

To summarise there's just few areas at present whereby both of our airforces can reach to meet in air combat!

It was a shame losing Hornet for sure, as you say though I have dominance now and with the arrival of a few Essex's I'm stronger than I was before Hornet's loss.

Hi all,

Final update for the month of July.

Lexington & Co reached PH safely and are in port awaiting the arrival of Executor and Chimera which are passing through the Panama Canal. They should be at PH around mid-August. We then head off to the South Pacific to have some fun.

Same old elsewhere with little action of note.

I'm starting to prepare for a Burma offensive by assembling and massing troops at Calcutta where they'll be given offensive orders and begin preparing for the upcoming campaign.

Submarine Warfare -

8 dud/missed attacks. The most prominent of which was by SS KXI as she sighted CV Unryu off Sabang. She fired 4 torpedoes in 2 salvo's all of which missed. She was detected by the escorts and sunk. Faber admitted it was a potential CV raid into the Indian Ocean. They wouldn't have found much anyway.

SS Sawfish sank AKL Juyo Maru on 23rd July. The next day she encountered another convoy and damaged TK Ryuei Maru with a torpedo.

SS Haddock reported sinking AK Koyu Maru with 2 torpedoes in the Phillipine Sea on the 26th July.

SS Hake sank AK Asama Maru #2 off Kanoya on 27th Kuly.

SS Sunfish left AO Toho Maru heavily damaged with a torpedo hit off Balikpapan.

SS Gar was sunk by Japanese LBA off Wakkanai.
