Hi all, quote:
ORIGINAL: JWE quote:
ORIGINAL: Apollo11 Watching CNN / Sky / BCC for the last Space Shuttle launch! Sad feelings though... Me too, Leo. Sigh (huge sigh) that's the end of space flight for us. We reached for the stars and touched another world; The wonder of our ancesters was made manifest; We took a first shuffling step, into the wonder of wonders; But retreated into the shelter of venial practicality; No more looking at stars with wonder and hope; No more reaching for that which is yet beyond our grasp; No more yearning to go where we have not yet gone; No more striving to become yet greater then we are; Just simple proles grubbing an existence; In a world devoid of hope and excitement; But in such a world without a future, one can be content; We are "practical". [ed] Poem is mine alone. Represents my personal feelings only. I kind of liked it, so sent it to some of my friends at NASA and to the congressmen that I do business with. Won't do squat, but at least it might help get the word out a teensy bit. Thanks for sharing John! BTW, the new "Orion" (pardon, the "Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle" = MPCV ) is step back in design and idea of 50 years... I really can't understand why this enlarged "Apollo" spacecraft is the best we can do nowadays... and even if we do want to emulate everything we did in the past we simply can't - for example we can't go to the moon in foreseeable future with all or current advanced technology... even such copy of 50+ years old technology would take another 10+ years to develop... utter madness... <SIGH> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-Purpose_Crew_Vehicle Leo "Apollo11"
