Hate to be a party pooper, but I just can't get worked up over the last shuttle mission. It was the same when Concorde flew its last trip; nope, can't shed a tear over a piece of engineering that now won't be used any longer.

Maybe I'm dead inside, but maybe the people who are "sad" about this are overreacting.

No offense to any of my friends, and especially not to Bruce, who has the right to feel melancholy about this, if anybody does.

Me, I don't care very much. The shuttle has been a UPS truck for the ISS for years now; it stopped being interesting when the Hubble telescope was fixed.

Afternoon tithe... The passing of the shuttle, reminds me that nothing that is man-made lasts for ever... Well maybe apart from the 'written word' that is.

The news was going on about the historic last flight and the end of an era. I look at it as a national tragedy. With nothing in the works to replace it, we allow ourselves to be anchored to a rock circling a star. Maybe I've read too much science fiction but we need to be looking/exploring beyond our world. Not with fly-bys and robotics but with eyes, hands and feet on the ground.

Just an FYI, we have a shuttle tire used on one of the shuttles sitting in our showroom. I'm a manager at a tire/auto shop. One day a dad wanted one of his kids to touch it and be able to say that he had touched something that had been in space.

Even the written word is at risk with the Kindles and Nooks out. Seems much more profitable for a publisher to release an e-book than to print, bind, ship and sell in a shop with all the overhead those things entail.

I am very glad you like it!

IMHO their marketing approach is fantastic - you get fully functional sim with 1 flyable plane for each side, on-line and campaign for free - if you "hook up" you then buy additional planes!

BTW, there is another old gem out there as well (a bit outdated graphics but no other sim can place hundreads of aircraft in the air and it has great unpredictable AI):

"Battle of Britain II: Wings of Victory" - the community made patches for it (latest one if 6 months old)!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Britain_II:_Wings_of_Victory

It was based on Rowan's Battle of Britain sim.

Hi all,

Yesterday it was so hot that wife and I decided to be lazy and watch TV...

We saw 1st season (10 episodes) of "Lark Rise to Candleford" BBC series - very nice indeed!
