I wonder if ship repairs are not too long, especially in regards to base repairs times.

For example, it took much much more time to repair a CV in Noumea from 16 to 8% damage than to completly repair Lae after I seized it, and which had something like 100% damage to port, and 65% damage to airfield. And needless to say, there were much more troops and supplies in Noumea than in Lae ..

What do you think ?

Regards.

I think their is a subtle difference between dirt and steel hull girders laced with pipe and wiring.;)

I found that the difficulty in repairing Sys damage on ships forced me to be more historical in the way I use ships. When I first started playing UV, I often sent ships out on sorties.

After finding the how much Sys damage they accumulated, I'm now much more judicious about sending them out - which is the way commanders needed to be. Now my ships spend much more time in port.

In the old SIP War in the Pacific, ships had to spend much time refitting and retooling. My view is that Sys damage in UV is a subtle way of pushing the player to do this. A previous poster on the Sys damage subject noted his problem of keeping 14 Bradley Fighting vehicles operating. He said something to the effect that despite constant maintenance, the systems of certain vehicles often failed.

Well, I think I forgot to say something : the mentionned CV was of course not the only ship at repair in Noumea, so this partly explains why it took so long to have it repaired.

I think it would be a good idea to let us decide which ships should undergo repair, so we could accelerate repair times for the ships we need badly.

Maybe in a next patch ? Please ... ;)

As far as I'm aware, it makes no difference how many ships you have repairing in port. Each ship with damage is individually checked each turn, based on a random figure and port size. The ONLY way to guarentee ship repair is sending them back to either Pearl or Japan as all ships there have a set figure in regards to repair rates.

Obviously the larger ports of Noumae and Truk etc will have a good chance of repairing said ships, but they will never be as good as Pearl/Japan. When you have low damage to larger ships, its a gamble basically of wether to send them back or let them sit in port.

As DTX has said, if want to avoid excessive system damage, get into the habit of only moving your ships when neccessary. Moving Cv's every turn to avoid subs locking on , or to avoid being spotted are gambles only you must decide, and weight up sys damage accumalted vs this threat.

I was under the impression that system damage occurred when at sea and didn’t matter if you moved from one hex to another or whether you just sat still. I know it causes more damage if you move faster than cruising speed, such as during a bombardment, but not if you are just going cruising speed. This is because it’s assumed that you are moving cruising speed even if you sit in the same hex.

Now dont get me wrong, sys damage will occurr at any time when at sea, but in my limited experience I have certainly seen a dramatic reduction in accumalated sys dam by limiting movement. My Cv tf's very rarely , if at all move at anything but cruise speed so for me to link the sys dam to movement is quite logical.

Without quoting the whole of section 12.6 of the rules, which IMO can be interpreted both ways. Brief runthrough, Tfs can accumalate sys dam when not docked and at sea. It also goes on to say every hex a Tf enters during its movement is checked for sys dam or operational dam. Make of that as you will.

Regards. [/B][/QUOTE]A button on the ship's page to designate it "Priority Repair". It would actually require some serious coding I believe, because the game would have to adjust the repair capabilities of the other ships in that port (i.e., make them suffer penalties).

Well, only Matrix could tell for sure, but I was just thinking about an option to repair or not repair, which should be easier than add penalties to some ships :)

Another possible problem relating to Priority Repair would be additional player imbalance against the AI. My guess is that human players would use the button almost entirely for CVs, BBs and ocassionally CAs. Since the AI isn't good at sending ships back to base for repairs, this would give the human an additional layer of advantage. I don't think players need additional advantages (the AI does).

Of course, Matrix could invest resources writing a repair priority algorithm for the AI, but I doubt the investment would offer much additional play value. I'd much rather see Matrix follow it's current course and invest it's limited resources on areas that would offer the greatest to the player for the least time invested.
