been playing against AI now looking for an opponent for a pbem game, any scenrio, looking for someone who can/will answer questions/give me feedback I may have/need to show me the ropes of playing a game against a human opponent, or a team game with a teammate I can ask questions of and get feedback from. Any scenario, I have not played the Japan side as of yet, so would love to do that with a teammate.

Hi xnavytc, I am by no means an expert at witp I have two pbem games under my belt against same opponent.  I would be willing to play Scenario #2 as the Japanese side.  Contact me if you care to talk about starting a game.

Sounds like you are looking for a mentor? As my current 4 PBEM partners are all MIA , I guess I could take on one of the smaller PBEM's, if you are still interested.

I can fit in another game if you like.  Either a smaller scenario or one of the big ones.  I've not managed to get a game as the Allies yet, so if you're happy to play as the Japanese side

would be great to have u as a mentor Steve, any of the small scenarios would be fine to play. havent played against a human so u should probably pick the scenario u think i could learn the most from and any constructive criticism and/or suggestions would be welcome.

My recommendations for a beginner is to go slow, medodically and complete. I recommend 1st playing against the AI (which you've done) then in a PBEM in a very short scenario , either Coral sea or the Thousand mile war. Then another short one in a "mirror game" , that is to play two concurrent games of the same scenario in which you play one as Axis and one as Allies. (This gives you an understanding of the games balances and imbalances by playing each side , and a feel for the interaction). Then I recommend a longer scenario like Guadacanal , followed by the Marinas. Only then should you be thinking about playing "The Grand Campaign", and as first as the Allies.

What I usually do as part of the "Mentoring process" is to do a major debrief after each game (especially after an early surrender). I recommend , if the "Mentee" is interested, in playing one game "open" , that is to say non-competative. There would be intensive interraction between moves , such as you do a turn , and say "I did this and why". And then I respond "this is how and why I'd counter this".

Obviously this is a long term program , and if it's more than you want/need, then unnessary. It's just the sort of thing I'd recommend for someone new to the game , who wants to master it quickly and completely. While it won't get you to the stage when you can take on one of "The Grandmasters" (such as Dixie here) it should put you able to play any competant player. After you do that , I'd recommend you take on as many "Grand Masters" as you can , and expect to have your head handed to you repeatedly and frequently. (That's the stage I'm in. I have a belief , that the more times I get beat , the closer to completely understanding this game I am. And I've been beaten a great many times, and very, very badly).

Dr. Andre. Please re-read my post. I said PARTNERS. You are clearly an Opponent. In a 2x2 , you have sides. Your partner, is the guy on your team. Your opponents are the guys on the OTHER team. Now please go back to cutting up chickens. Or students.

AHHHH! A double threat! Would you have been a nuke? Or an EW operator?

Obviously you are use to long , painfull learning processes. I'm used to having students trying take over the class (then the world!). Having had AW's,IS's,RIPO's and NFO's as students , it would be a pleasure to teach someone obviously capable of learning.

Look over the scenario and see which you'd like to play , and what side. I strongly recommend that you don't become a AFB or JFB this early in your learning process. You really , really need to learn both side. I don't consider myself to be either , although in the Grand Campaign , I play Allies because I really hate production. As I have often said, "I didn't buy Factory Manager in the Pacific"!

You can reach me best at my email. Use my Log in name , @Yahoo.com.
