The Achilles didn't move as we hoped.
First of all no enemy ships were found at Russell island...then the Achilles TF didn't have any more op point to move back and got found by enemy Netties still in those dangerous waters... She ate some fishes along with a DD and is now on the iron bottom sound.

The Ramille TF taking the longer northern route arrived exactly on time (night of the 18th), bombed the base, and went away without a problem.

Our 4Es closed Russell Island for few days at least, while our 2Es attacked Tulagi beachheads.

The Japs at Tulagi did try an attack but obtain a bloody nose. Forts down to 4 but lots of enemies disabled.

An USMC Tank Bn is unloading at Tulagi along with more 7000 supplies.

Again the Cat&Mouse game worked. He bombed Lunga with 170 bombers escorted by 200 fighters (sweeping also Tassafaronga) but didn't obtain anything cause we had moved back to Tulagi all our air force. From there we managed to defend the landings and our C-47s against a series of enemy Netties attacks.

The KB is now south of Shortland...

As you remember, on the 1st Jan 1943 140k japanese marched out on Buna, taking the Owen Stanley route.
In 12 days of marching they reached PM in a very good shape, despite having suffered 2 days of bombings by 70 Allied bombers taking off from Cairns.
On the 13th 50k japanese delivered the first fist on the undersupplied and badly distrupted 2nd Aus Corp, composed by the 27th U.S. Division and the 87th NZ Bde, supported by 2 Artillery units. 3 level of fortifications crumbled down on the first assault.
On the 14th the fate of the PM defensors was already written. 13,000 allied are sent to POWs camp in Luzon and 3 Japanese armies were already able to march back towards Buna.

What really surprise me is the fact that Rader was been able to march on one of the possible worst terrain in the whole pacific with the equivalent of 7 Divisions in making 90 miles in less than 2 weeks!...

Are GreyJoy and I the only ones to find this absolutely ridiculous?

What's the solution to this logistical absurdity please anyone?

Other that is than not playing the game?

Roger

I agree.

Marching 7+ infantry divisions, 3 Army HQs, and 1 Area Army HQ overland from Buna to PM is gamey as hell.

Furthermore, where is your oppponent getting all these divisions? Is he simply ignoring the garrison requirements in India and China?

No, you're not. No solution, as far as I know. The latest patches make these shenanigans harder, but supplying large amounts of troops across jungles of Burma or whatever is still possible.

Landing at Tulagi was quite costly for the Japanese. Your PT boats entered the legend (posthumously). As long as you don't allow any units to be eliminated entirely, even if Tulagi falls the whole battle will a Pyrrhic victory for your opponent, considering brutal Japanese aircraft, ship and squads losses.

Don't call it gamey. It isn't as long as i can do the same. It's a problem related to the system engine... that said, it's for sure something that needs to be watched  by the Devs.

However FatR i do think Tulagi is getting expensive for him. For sure once that Russell Island will be secured things will be easier for Japan but untill that moment the Iron Bottom Sound isn't a safe place for neither of us.
The last turn was another good day in the air. 70 vs 22 in my favour, with very few planes of mine shot down and only 2 pilots KIA (both were Catalinas pilots).
The first Corsair squadron is being assembled at Ndani

Now the KB is in a striking position 1 hex south of Shortland, along with a strong BB TF. Pretty sure they'll come for Tulagi. I evacuated my Air Force back to Ndani where now i have assembled 300 fighters and 250 bombers.
I only moved 18 Torpedo bombers and 15 SDBs escorted by 15 F4Fs to Tassafaronga (which is operative again). The idea is that if my PTs manage to damage or to slow down the upcoming BBTFs, maybe they'll be able to score some lucky hit...you never know...better to try

Russell Island AF is closed so i'll rest my 4Es for the next 2 days, while my 2Es will keep on bombing Tulagi and my C-47s will start to bring in the 147th US Regiment. Tulagi supply level is up to 27k (it was 7900 one week ago).

If the KB will come raiding Ndani she'll find a bad surprise waiting for her... Without his dreaded LBA sweeps i don't think he'll come...anyway i'm well ready to welcome the intruders with 300 crack fighters (among them Spits VIII, SpitsVc and Corsair)

No, don't think so. He's using garrison units to garrison the biggest Indian cities and in China, having conquered all of it, he can buy out many many divisions...plus it's scen 2 so he has more free divisions to spare since the beginning

Oh lord!!!

Over Karachi and over Ndeni the world watched incredulous at the 2 most incredible bloodbaths of the whole WWII!!!

Where to start?

Let's say that he sent 500 bombers and 600 fighters over Karachi

and the KB attacked Ndeni with 200 Zeros sweeping from Choiseul Bay (how can they sweep so far!?!?!?)

...japanese paras conquered Rennell Island, while our bombers attacked Tulagi facing more than 90 KB zeros on LRCAP....

We tried to counterattack the KB but he had 190 zeros on CAP....We lost some 12 transports at Ndeni and probably a lot of planes on the ground...but the KB suffered badly...don't have the numbers yet but it was a carnage, both over karachi and over Ndeni!

But we're not broken yet!

Ok, we still have 200 fighters over Ndani. Feel rather safe.

Now we've ordered a night bombing of 48 4Es (we have 100% moonlight tonight) at Chouseul Bay and a daylight bombing of Rennell Island recently conquered by Japanese Paras (it's another level 3 AF...needs to be closed ASAP!)

At Tulagi we managed to get to 40k supplies and we now have 550 AVs behind 4 forts...not bad. He'll need to committ more than what he has right now

Think the KB will move away...more than 200 bombers lost is probably too much to handle even for Rader's KB. At Tulagi we've formed a screen of 30 PTs

I'll post a couple of combat reports of the last 2 bloody days....

The KB seems to be retiring towards Truk and not Rabaul...

Japanese DD TFs sunk 6 PTs at Tulagi, while 30 Netties heavily escorted sunk a TF composed by 2 xAKs and an DMS that were moving the heavy equipmment of the 147th Inf Rgt to Tulagi...

The Japs attacked again at Tulagi and again they got a bloody nose. 1-3 and forts didn't go down!

He came with 130 Helens to bomb Tulagi AF...empty again

We smashed Rennell Island and a couple of night bombing raids over Choiseul Bay destroyed a good number of fighters on the ground

At Karachi he came back with 300 Tojos on Sweep...again a carnage of hopeless Hurricanes, P-39s and P-40Ks...that bleeding is necessary however...

Ground combat at Tulagi (114,137)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 54040 troops, 494 guns, 115 vehicles, Assault Value = 1870

Defending force 21096 troops, 391 guns, 569 vehicles, Assault Value = 547

Japanese adjusted assault: 709

Allied adjusted defense: 2350

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 3 (fort level 4)

Roger

I find it ridiculous as well. The trick, however, is to think of a way of limiting it without causing unreasonable restrictions. I still don't have an easy fix in mind, that can safely be applied this late in the AE development cycle (and besides, it isn't my call on whether it gets addressed or not).

I would report rader to the Kangaroo Court for marcing 5,000 AV across the Owen Stanleys, but I have a conflict of interest (in that I've been active in GreyJoy's AAR). This is one of those "have you no shame?" moments.

I definately think rader has committed a transgression worthy of the Kangaroo Court, but I can't make a referral due to a conflict of interest.

I agree.

Marching 7+ infantry divisions, 3 Army HQs, and 1 Area Army HQ overland from Buna to PM is gamey as hell.

Furthermore, where is your oppponent getting all these divisions? Is he simply ignoring the garrison requirements in India and China?

I think you are wrong to call this one gamey. There are about 100 places on the map where the same thing can be done by either player. (Northern OZ comes to mind where a Japanese player can land at a level 0 port and then conduct an overland campaign to take Darwin over 400 miles of dirt track.) Unfortunately, this is impossible to regulate and to call Rader gamey here is to implicate that the Allied or Japanese player won't do it elsewhere-when we all do. I think most players tend to accept the balky supply system at face value and don't get into pissing matches when it does or does not work for them. Rader gets the benefit here and Greyjoy will get the same benefit elsewhere.

It's been a busy sunday with lots of turns (and what turns they were!)...i'd have many many things to say about the actual situation in the Solomons (12 units already left PM hex and are now on the Owen Stanley again) but i have to quit now...too tired...tomorrow will try to make a comprehensive report of the general situation in all the fronts...

night gents

Wow! Look at those Kate and Val losses. As this is WITP Scenario 2 it's going to takes days, maybe even a full week to fully reload the KB again! Seriously, I wonder how the KB's "quality of pilot" is fairing?

That last turn is why your CV's need to come out and fight, he is using the KB aganist land bases way to much, and it will cost hime if you attack. Do not be afraid of the KB at this point in the game.

If your CV's where any where close the KB may have gone down on the bottom in one turn.

Anyone who knows anything about WWII knows it was impossible, in RL, to march 7+ divisions plus 4 HQs overland from Buna to Port Moresby.

If it was impossible in RL, but the game allows it, the tactic is gamey.

Whatever the in-game supply situation is in Burma or Northern Australia has no bearing on the fact that what Rader did could not have been done in RL, and should not be done in AE.

Andrew, I just opened a thread in the mod section to discuss a solution for the OS issue
(and possibly other map locations), appretiate if you have a look. Its just an idea, don´t
know if its possible.

Another bloody turn!

Jan 23, 24 1942

The KB seems to be at Truk, while a strong SCTF (with BBs and CAs) lingers at Shortland.

We moved the Cactus force back to Lunga again. There were no enemy ships approaching so our SDBs and Torpedo bombers relaxed. Fighters haven't time to do so however.
Rader came in force with several sweeps (at least 150 modern fighters - Tojos and A6M3s) over Tulagi, followed by 160 Helens heavily escorted.
Our Cactus Force took off from Handerson and engaged several battles, giving and taking.
The main sweeping base for his fighters (Tojos in particularly) is Chouseul Bay, so we decided to sweep the base with 10 P-38Gs and then bomb the hell out of it with my 4Es...
The mission was a complete success!!! 150 enemy planes reported destroyed on the ground and the AF is reported closed for any operation!
We're pushing them back!!!!!!!
Our losses are pretty high, but not unsustainable.
We have more forces coming to the theatre...
Tomorrow we'll naval bomb Tulagi again, while our bombers will attack Russell Island...just to be sure that that damned AF remains closed.
At the same time more engeneers are being transfered at Tulagi, along with a US Corp HQ.
More 7k supplies are unloading in these hours at Tulagi, while his troops remain cut out of any communication line
Soon he's going to have again at hand all the divisions that conquered PM so i need to reinforce my positions now!

P-38s on Sweep did wonders, even at 15 hexes of distance (with drop tanks). I will start to use them offensively.

Now he'll probably come for Handerson Field. This time i'll stand and fight cause he should have less planes able for sweeps (considering the Choiseul bay debacle of the last turn)

Let's see if i can hurt him again
