I started a long campaign as the Soviets, with my force including 4 37mm flak guns, as there was no way to purchase 76.2mm or 85mm guns with the current OOB. I was delaying on my first missions, and when German Stuka's came, large ammounts of 37mm flak filled the sky, shooting many Stuka's down. Figuring that if the 37's could do so well, then 85's could do great, I edited the OOB myself to include heavy AA as a formation. I restarted the campaign, bought 6 85's, and, once again, was delaying the germans as my first mission. Result - 1 single 85mm shot fired at a Stuka (Which hit, by the way). No more. Some strikes passed BETWEEN the guns, and one Stuka even managed to bomb an 85 that was pointed at the direction that the Stuka came from(!), all without getting shot at. I was dissapointed, to say the least. The guns were not suppressed and had plenty of shots and ammo. I have yet to test this theory with 76.2mm flak guns, but is it just the 85's or something about "Heavy Flak" versus regular "Flak"? This result is good I think because, Heavy AA is made for attacking highflying slow Bombers not "fast" lowflying ground attackers. The truning rate for a Heavy AA is slower than that of a 20mm or 37mm AA Gun. These Guns can follow a lowflying fast aircraft more easily than the big guns.

Which would seem to make them a poor purchase. I created a test involving 14 german aircraft of 7 different types running through a perpendicular line of 85mm, 76.2mm, 37mm, and 12.7mm flak, 2 ea. Result? The HMGs each fired off 13 & 6 rounds, respectively (getting the only kill, a He-111), 37mm each fired 10 rounds, getting many damage shots, 76.2mm 2 rounds each , and 85mm 1 round each. I realize that the heavy guns would not have the same firing rate, but it does make them rather useless in their intended role, being less effective and more expensive than the 37mm and 12.7mm. Oh, and I should mention that the 12.7mm AAMG has an improper icon, lokking like a cross between a halftrack and a mortar crew

[Cut] Hello, They are rather useless as they should be. Not that many accounts of German 88mm, 105mm or 128mm flak guns downing low flying Typhoons or P47's. But many accounts of those planes falling to 20mm, 20mmQuad and 37mm. Yes, but B-17s are in Ver4.5. I know I am in a generated campain and every time I come up against the americans, their B-17s clobber my OB artillary by turns 4-6,
