Under what circumstances are SU:s destroyed? And is there an easy way to find out which HQ they were in (for reasons of replacement)?

When a unit is eliminated by combat (surrender or destroyed). I think when they are eliminated by combat they show up in 'destroyed units' list. If they are withdrawn, I'm not exactly sure if you will see that reported in a list?

Sadly, there's no way to discover what HQ's they were in, a feature I also asked for in the past.

It seems SU's are most likely to be destroyed in a turn where they've been in combat, possibly more than once, with the result of the battle being that their side retreated followed by an enemy unit displacing their HQ. Destroying a support unit purely through combat is generally pretty tricky as long as your opponent is paying attention.

We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed then.

That makes sense. I've managed to keep my HQs out of harms way for the most part so it seems that just retreat is sufficient.

so try and keep a consistent standard of Support Units attached to your HQs, and when you see that ones missing....laborious I know...

That's pretty much what I'm aiming for, but the Germans have other plans.

AI auto disband SU if SU's TOE go too low compared to MAX TOE it is in the manual but manual won’t say anything about threshold of auto disband.

Auto disband makes since because from historical perfects units that suffered horrific casualties any remaining men in them got break from line and was pulled away and units were reformed totally.

For me SU are just mechanic to add more punch were I need it and rip off them where I don’t need them I could not care less where those SU units were before. Only thing I care that I can have those SU were I think I could use them to get my plans done and inflict maximum casualties to enemy.

would be great if SUs were in a central button function and you assigned to a unit what was availble for the area they were in or could move them with the one turn wait rule if you needed them else where. a lot less clicks.
