Which is the best late war A6m5 variant to produce? Vanilla A6M5 has the best performance. But i like heavily armed and armored A6M5c. Is it a big problem in dogfights vs. Hellcats and others compared to A6M5 or armour and extra firepower compensates for lack of performance? Has anyone any experience with various A6M5 models?

I would go with the faster of the two. But no matter, both will die vs the hellcat.....

You'll get the M5 (M5a) so much before the others that the 5b probably isnt worth R&D-ing for, for its marginal firepower improvement of 1 7.62 gun changed to a 12,7mm HMG. I have no experience with 5c but its probably way, way too slow to not lose even worse than 5a/b against mid/late -44 Allied fighters, only good if you can get it through to shoot some non-4E bombers. And both N1K and J2M do that at least as well + they can fight back the fighters too.

From what I can remember from my last game there was not much difference overall. The 5c is a good bomber destroyer but is much slower than the Hellcat and Corsair so will die in droves against them. Even with Armour all Allied fighters have enough firepower to bring them down.

Thanks. I'll try with A6M5C then. Maybe I lose all experienced carrier pilots after that
