Hi Guys,

I have been playing the 1st Panzer Long Campaign Random and have played 14 battles. At present I am in reaction turn 20. However, I am unable to get beyond this turn as when I click on the button to continue the game falls over and takes me back to the desktop. I'm not sure how to load the saved game to this thread so you could have a look and see if you can spot the problem. Any thoughts?

Regards,

Mark C.

Look in your log.

You could post the last part of that current log entry here.

Good Hunting.

It sounds like this might be a data problem. As MR said, the log may contain a hint of what's ccausing the problem.

To upload the saved game, you can find the .sav file in the Save directory. You will also need to upload the scenario file itself. It can be found in the .\Data\Scenarios folder. It will have a file name in the format: ®1309490627762.xml . You will have a lot of files with that format. you will need to find the correct one. If you sort the folder by date, you can estimate where the file is then confirm it by opening it with a browser. Check the battle date and make sure it is the same as your saved file. you might have to rename the scenario file before zipping it up.

You can zip the .sav and the scenario file together and upload to forum by clicking the "click here to upload" button just below the message composition window.

Thanks
Rick

Thanks mark, i'll take a look at files. Can you tell me if you have the Beta patch installed?

Yes there does appear to be a number of warning messages in the log, though i'm not sure those are the critical issue here.

Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick,

When the problem first appeared I did not have the Beta patch installed. I did then install it in the hope that it would rectify the situation but it did not.

Mark C.

Mark,

Do you have a saved game from the previous battle by any chance? The log msgs I get imply a problem with end game screen, but I'm not sure the battle should be ending yet. I also see that there is a Stuka reinforcement that is supposed to arrive on Turn 20. Also, if you could zip up all of the Random Battle files for that campaign, along with the Campaign file itself that might help.

The Campaign file will be in the Data\Campaign directory and will have a name similar to: ®1st Panzer Div ......xml

And also, if you could let me know if you have the Beta patch installed. EDIT: Sorry I didnt see your post above when I posted.

I saw some error msg. in the log you posted that may have been triggered by the prior game.

Thanks!
Rick

I haven't yet. I played through the end of the previous game (#13), and did not get any error msg. in the log file. I"ll go on to #14. Unfortunately, I have the Beta patch installed on mine already (actually I'm testing an updated Beta patch), so I'm not sure how well it will finish up.

In any case I'll try to play through the 14th battle eitehr tonight or tommorrow.

Thanks

I played through to turn 24 and when the game reached T24 (end of reaction phase), I also got a CTD. So I'm fairly sure it is crashing when it goes to the end game cycle. This leads me to think the save game file has gotten corrupted. I'm not sure what might have caused it.

I'm going to try a couple of more things. But I cant revert back to prepatch for a while as i'm also testing some other features for the patch.

Sorry I wasn't more help. If I do find anything I'll post here and let you know.

Thanks

Mark,

I haven't been able to figure out why the campaign saved game got corrupted. I'm going to save the files and I'll try to get back to it after we finalize the patch.

I know it must be frustrating to play 13 battles and have it CTD.

Sorry I wasn't more help

Thanks

Does this mean that many, or possibly all, PCO players will experience a CTD near the end of this campaign? I was going to buy PCO today but I trashed the purchase idea when I came across this thread. I'm obviously concerned that this BUG could be a game killer for me . I certainly don't want to have Chorlto's aggravating experience.

Please advise ... Thanks

No, I others have played through the campaigns. If you play with the same user made mods and the same version through the campaign, it should be safe. That isn't to say a file can't get corrupted, a power outage in middle of save, a bad disk sector.

Thanks

Rick,

Thanks for looking into the problem. Frustrating not to have a solution yet but it hasn't stopped me playing the game.

Sevenpointsix2, whilst I have had a problem with one part of the game don't let it put you of purchasing the game. I love PCO and have been playing it more than CMBN. It really is a great game and I really think that it has most of the features of WEGO strategy games right.

Regards,

Mark C.

Thanks Rick and Chorlto. Glad to hear it's not a major problem after all. Going ahead with my PCO purchase.

Mark,

I reloaded the Release version and then reloaded your save files. I started with your save game from the scenario before you had your CTD. I finsihed that scenario then started Game 14. I played through and on T22 had the CTD while trying to load the end screen.

But I had kept plenty of saved games, so I started backing up and found that if I surrendered around Turn 6, it would let me proceed to the end game screen and then I was able to load and start playing Game 15.

I haven't pinned down what happened between T6 and T8 that caused the problem. I'm going to look at those a few more times and check a coupld of things. I only played a couple of turns of Game 15 and then surrendered to see and it proceeded to next game. But I didn't play Game 15 out to see what would happen if I won.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks
Rick

Thanks Rick,

I'll have a go at surrenderring and see if I can play through game 15. I'll let you know how I go. Just a quick question: How do you surrender?

Thanks for all your time and effort on this issue. I really appreciate it.

Thanks Rick,

I'll have a go at surrenderring and see if I can play through game 15. I'll let you know how I go. Just a quick question: How do you surrender?

Thanks for all your time and effort on this issue. I really appreciate it.

Mark C.

you can surrender using the q key. I've been trying to narrow down what causes it to fail by trying to play through saving and surrending each turn.

I don't think surrendering will help on your orignal saved game turn. I tried that and it still failed. I had to back up several turns. Unfortuanately I still don't know what's causing it to fail.

Thanks
Rick

Mark,

I've been going over the campaign again. I noticed that your zipfile for your campaign files had about 70 scenarios, but your campaign was only 36 battles. I went through and deleted those scenarios that disn't belong to the campaign. but oddly enough, i also saw the time stampe on the first scenario in campaign was about 3 hours off from the rest of the scenario in the campaign.

Anyway, I started from the Game 13 save you provided, then early in game 14 I surrendered, then played through game 15 and it ended and proceeded on to game 16.

This was all with the original release version of PCO, no beta patches installed.

I'm still not sure what hppened to those two scnarios, there is still something else I want to check. I'm mainly wanting to see if I see something that might happen to someone else, though I don't think we've had reports of others with this same problem.

Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the info. I restarted Game 14 and surrendered as you suggested which got me through to Game 15. I am now into about turn 3-4 and will let you know if I have any problems.

Thank you so much for all the effort you have put into looking into my problem. It just confirms how good you guys are at supporting your games and your customers. Can't say thanks too much!!

Regards,

Mark C.

Hi Rick,

I have had another CTD with game 17 in the 1st Panzer random campaign. It happened on turn 18 Reaction phase as it was attempting to load the Orders phase. Not sure what the reason was but I have retried playing the game and the same thing happens when I receive off-board reinforcements. Anyway, I will reload the setup phase and surrender and see if I can continue the campaign.

Regards,

Mark C.

Mark,

Thanks for the update Mark. for your last CTD, I'm fairly sure it was related to a problem loading the victory screen. Do you have any other Random Campaigns going on that at same time? It shouldn't matter, but I never was able to identify what caused the first problem.

Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick,

Its me again. I have had another CTD with the 1st Panzer Random Campaign, this time at the loading phase of the new scenario. I get the force selection screen OK and can select forces and then select start. The scenario starts to load but just before finishing I get a CTD. I have posted the log file to the bottom of this email. It looks like there is some issue with loading a russian infantry animation but not sure why this would be the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Mark C.
