Allied ground losses:
Men lost 40
Guns lost 2

Both allied TFs were on Fast Transport missions. The DD's were evacuating worn out troops from Gili Gili, and the CL was bringing in the Heavy Equipment for the relief force (the rest of which had been airlifted in previously). They ran into a Japanese Bombardment force on the way in.

Mustin sank shortly after the battle, but surprisingly neither Monssen or Phoenix were all the badly hurt, considering. Phoenix had about 40-odd floatation damage and 30-odd system, Monssen a bit worse. Neither was in danger of actually sinking, and were able to emergency repair in PM over a week or so and sail back to Austraila.

Naka was later chased down and sunk by a sub, and while I assume Hiei wasn't all that badly damaged, I haven't seen her since.

The intersting thing is that only a single hit on Phoenix was from a BB's main battery (14"), which probably did almost all the damage. The rest of the hits were from 5" guns (including the BB's secondary batteries) which failed to penetrate her armor.
