I was not planning on this being an AAR so I don't have any worthy screenshots other then a map. This is an AAR about one of those games which was so good you will won't ever forget it. The kind where you will still be telling your friends about it 10 years from now. Turn by turn, hour by hour, nail biting nearly the entire time. This was simply a new random map, in fact I don't even remember the exact settings, I just left everything pretty much as is and started the game. It was me vs 3 other AIs. I was to the far east in the light green area. Was a desert in the middle of the map and out west right near the last river was where the desert met the jungle. There were numerous factories scattered out around the whole map, many tank factories in the middle, air and guns were to the west. On my side in the east were a mix of factories.

Game started with me advancing west immediately declared war on Das Reich who was in the center at start. This map is a much later screenshot after the Soviets from the north and also me as The Empire too them over. I fought back and forth hitting them from the east while Soviets hit them from the north. Eventually it became to much for them and they ended up getting beat back to nearly nothing and finally conquered.

After this, I continued to advance further west through the desert. I noticed Burgundy moving in from the west who the Soviets were also fighting. I decided to DoW Burgundy and not Soviets so I left the Soviets alone with their northern section just to the north of the desert. At this time I increased production of several light tanks and armored cars with a solid airforce. I pushed on and hit Burgundy hard and ran into a solid battlefront. This lasted for several turns going back and forth a bit. I was finally able to push them back and all the way to the jungle/river line in the far east of the desert. Once there, my light tanks and bombers were no longer able to inflict sufficient damage to the enemies since they had a terrain advantage. I then started to run into oil shortages too which made me decide to switch production to bazookas and smg groups to fight in the jungle. Finally after several turns I was able to break through past the two rivers and advance further to the west. My powerful airforce was taking a toll on Burgundy until finally I started meeting extremely heavy resistance from enemy airforces. I lost nearly my entire airforce. I had to rely on Flak cannons to fight off planes for several turns. Eventually I would conquer the entire western region and over run Burgundy. Not long before I was able to conquer Burgundy, the Soviets DoW on me. I had left many units on that north south front just in case this happened before I was ready and that it did. I kept an eye on them throughout the game prior to them DoW me and noticed extremely strong forces that slowly were becoming a concern.

Off to war with the Soviets. Right at the break of war, within the first few turns I had lost nearly my entire north front forces. Slowly but surely I was able to move in more and more of my forces from the west. Met the Soviets at the two rivers again. Heavy fighting back and forth there, turn after turn of slugging it out. During the fighting here, Soviets finished off my north front forces and started their advance towards all my hometown cities and capital. At this same time and a highlight of the game, what do you know the Soviets decided on an amphibious assault all the way to the north west shore, some 52 destroyers with loads of tranports! Off came several land units onto the northwest city. I had since then moved all my forces way far away to the desert so all of this entire region was undefended. My main force was blocked at the two rivers from moving east too. After several more turns and my failured ability to defend my main cities, Soviet forces took each and every one of them over. They were unstoppable! Finally, with assistance of my extremely powerful airforce and a huge oil supply, I was able to break through at the two river and advance to the desert heading east. At this point, my source of supply was gone but I had 160,000+ supply reserves in my HQ which was supporting my main force. So I had limited time to recapture one of my original cities and get some supplies flowing back to my units.

I focused on AT guns and Infantry gun groups. Most were groups of 20 AT guns and 12 Inf guns. Very slow moving but was able to beat back the enemy enough to where I was able to go for the break through. I finally build several groups of armored cars and light tanks which I had hoped would be able to quickly rush through the desert and recapture at least one or more of my original cities. With the help of my airforce one again, I broke a path through for my light armored groups.

Now here is where the good part comes in and one of the many highlights of this particular game. I was able to capture one of my original cities. Just two turns before I captured it, the red supply light was turning on, all of my units. I had an entire region of armies spread through the whole land with red lights. Looked like a traffic jam. I was able to limp just far enough to capture that city. Held it for a while, until powerful Soviet groups started closing in. During this time I had lost nearly my entire force and everything I owned, factories and all of it. They retook my original city, and I had redlight supply less units scattered about the map. At this point I had no choice but to surrender in disbelief that I had actually lost this game. This could go in a wargame history book Well until next time...

Hi mate

very interesting AAR, its fun when the AI comes together in a game and performs brilliantly. That amphibious landing was a move worthy of a human opponent.


I have found in my random map games that the AI has a really good game against me about 1 out of 5 games and I like you have had to surrender on more than one occasion. So while Vic did very little to improve the AI in ATG, it is much improved due to other reasons like the way maps are built and the new supply resource structure etc... So overall I find it to be very much more challenging that regular AT.

I am glad you are enjoying the game and hope to see you looking for a PBEM game soon.

Wow, even reading that AAR was a nailbiter.  
That was against AI+ I reckon? I mean 52 destroyers...

By the way, your airforce is almost useless against troops in jungle/woods/hills, they do almost no damage there. Fighting in jungle = more like WWI style, very tough fighting, hex by hex, loads of Arty, best thing you can do is try an encirclement and starve them.
