Oh, for the love of......

Charles, button up, wouldya?

Also, WTF is he firing at? He's looking into the camera and firing about 20 degrees left and right of centerline! Is he that good a 'peripheral vision' shot that he can do this with both hands and Micro Uzis?

Dangerous ground there, young poultry! Naturally he is bracketing you with his aim, letting you know there is no place to run. Aw heck, run and you just die tired anyway!

I can't tell you how many times I cried with laughter whilest using that gun. The squirting pile of goo that the BFG-9000 transformed my opponent into after a direct hit...priceless.

God...."LAN parties"

the good ol days indeed. Grabbing the rocket launcher in Quake was fun too. In Duke Nukem, the weapon of choice to grab was the Shrinker......and then it was foot stepping time! CRUNCH!!!

Ah, the Shrinker Cannon! I also recall Duke Nukem getting down on all fours and slapping the little mini-Nukems with his palms too. Good stuff.

Personally, I LOVED the laser-triggered mines. Put these in the bottom of foxholes or just around a sharp corner. I particularly enjoyed the split-second BEEEEEP before they went off. Not enough time to get away, but JUST enough time to cringe and await your subsequent goo-ification.

ETA: All hail the rocket launcher in Doom and Doom II as well. Firing 100 RPGs into a crowded arena was bound to find some unfortunate sap. I got pretty good at firing the RPG on the run behind me-a real 'stinger' to rival a B17 tail gun.

I kind of skipped Quake and Quake II, but got into Unreal and Unreal Tournament especially.

URT had a deathmatch mod called "Facing Worlds", IIRC. Basically two towers opposing one another over a long linear killing ground. The whole kit and kaboodle floating in space against a planetary backdrop. Beautiful map.

Anyways, the sniper rifles in that level were freakin' murder incorporated. Many warm memories of M-M-M-MONSTER KILL! being announced through the speakers, combined with an animated head popping off of a spurting neck stump somewhere on the level.

had hours of fun with the original Unreal Tournamement as well as basic Unreal Deathmatch. I actually liked the latter more than even UT. Later versions of UT lacked the fun of the originals for some reason. By then too, I was pretty much out of the frag'in scene (except for solo play....i still love FPS/RPG mixes. Bio Shock, Doom3, Fallout3 and of course the Half-Life 2 franchise were nicely immersive solo ventures.....while also satisfying one's bloodlust.

All time favorite remains System Shock 2 though. That was one scary FPS. I'd play it at night with all the lights out.

FPS was never my scene, either.  The closest I usually came was a sim like F-19 or Silent Service II.  Now, my son is all about some multiplayer Halo (version whatever) on his Xbox 360.

I played the heck out of Silent Service II. That was the old sub game where you sunk Jap ships, right? Memory is fading......

Closest I came to RPGs was Darklands. That was pretty fun.

Story-driven just means it's an RPG now. Sorry. Dull. For me, at least.

Goodnight tithe.

Dr Zimm seems to be arguing with himself on that empty thread...

He quotes Nik and Mynok, then proceeds to agree with them in lots of words. I guess I am just not clever enough to understand what I read either...

Hi Leo.

I saw that you attended that match where Swedens sorry excuse for champions played yesterday - congrats!

Good thing you beat them - I seriously don't like that team.

Yep - it was very good game for us (best in years if I recall)!

So you don't like Malmoe... I could have guessed that since you are from Stockholm...

Good results for all the English teams tonight. Nice to see Fulham winning, even with their slightly mental chairman/owner

Leo, I'm surprised you didn't suggest "Serious Sam" as a touchstone FPS. Didn't you play that? IIRC, wasn't that a Croatian development team?

Fun game too, by the way.

And Tottenham won 5:0 in away game (and without Modric even playing)!
