Hi fellow gamers. Now that it seems like the disk 2 error is still at large, here is a personal input. I have run the install on two computer. My desktop is a old late year 1996 model and my laptop is 1999 vintage. The desktop is prone to give the diskt 2 errors. This I traced to the cd drive on the old bucket. The laptop has no problems reading and installing without fault the cd. I connected the twos and by sharing the laptop cd drive I could install the game on the old computer. Sound a bit strange that this appears on my computers as a software/hardware incompatibility while others have moslty noted bad software only. Regaards Molset "Jakki er ekki frakki nema sidur se"

THe disk 2 error simply means that for one reaosn or another, the install routine is looking for a file that it can't find. This can be caused by CD problems. Many CDs mass produced on "throw-away" quality media often have errors, or acquire them in shipping, hence the trouble with magazine disks). THe other most common error is a download thinking its finished, due to a server time out, packet switching anomoly, or noisy phone line, when its not. In some cases an error produces a hit on the interity of a file, a bit or two out the 100's of millions gets mishandled, not lost, and you get "bad CRC" when you open some files. THe infrastructure of the internet is not of uniform quality, and when dealing with huge files over phone lines in particular, the odds are working against you...

Paul, I've now DL'd (from the matrix server) 4.5 complete twice and the patch twice using a 56k modem & Net Vampire (360,726,528 bytes and 8,978,432 bytes respectively both times) and none of them will run. with each of these files I get a brief (.5 second) flash of the blue install screen, then it exits. When I reboot after having tried an install, windows goes through the rigamarol of "completing software installation" but nothing has changed. First time this has ever happened to me. Any ideas? I'm working with Tankhead to see if his copy of the patch will run on his machine. If so, I'll drive over & pick up a copy on Zip Disk & try it on mine. It would be nice, given the size of the files if a small checksum program could be DL'd from the Matix site to compare our DL'd files with a posted copy of the correct checksum so that we can weed out the bad downloads from the real problems. ------------------ Robert (Bonzo) Lindsay, Coordinator 28th (North-west) Battalion Headquarters Main http://nwbattalion.tripod.com Mirror http://dreadnaught.home.icq.com E-mail nwbattalion@icqmail.com

Those sizes aren't right. Should be 360,712,066 and 8,962,439. Click here (it's Matrix's ftp server) and right-click on the files to see the right sizes. You could try Getright instead, if that would help. Maybe the files should have been zips to begin with so that some extra bytes at the end would not ruin them. Thanks Kharan, I'll play a bit further with Net Vampire's settings. I've used NV for about 9 monthes & haven't had a problem before. I checked with Tankhead, & his install worked, so I'll drive over tonight & get a copy of the patch off him that I know will work, so I can compare it with future DLs so I can determine when I I have the settings right. ------------------ Robert (Bonzo) Lindsay, Coordinator 28th (North-west) Battalion Headquarters Main http://nwbattalion.tripod.com Mirror http://dreadnaught.home.icq.com E-mail nwbattalion@icqmail.com

Ok, Now I really need some Ideas. I got a working copy of the v4.5 update on zipdisk from Tankhead & tried it. IT won't run either. then I went back to the v4.0 complete I used to install on my machine & tried to install a second copy. It won't run either. So, Ideas??? What type of program might be keeping the programs from running? I shut down my firewall program & antivirus & all other nonessential programs prior to running. I have recently upgraded to DirectX8, but have had no unusual actions of late other than the problem as noted. System is an 800 Athlon on a Assus K7M motherboard. 265 meg Ram 30gig HD GeForce 2 GTS video Card All with latest BIOS & Drivers. For the moment, I don't want to uninstall SPWaW, as I fear never getting it up again. ------------------ Robert (Bonzo) Lindsay, Coordinator 28th (North-west) Battalion Headquarters Main http://nwbattalion.tripod.com Mirror http://dreadnaught.home.icq.com E-mail nwbattalion@icqmail.com

I've got it sorted out. I had a bad DLL, RICHED32.DLL. I had Tackhead send me a copy of his DLL, Stuck her in the System folder, deleted SPWaW & rebooted. Ran my v4.5 complete install & in she went. 4.5 is up & running. ------------------ Robert (Bonzo) Lindsay, Coordinator 28th (North-west) Battalion Headquarters Main http://nwbattalion.tripod.com Mirror http://dreadnaught.home.icq.com E-mail nwbattalion@icqmail.com
