*sigh*   I wish that someone would do a remake of the Battle Of Britain, with the CGI that they now have it was be a real experience to watch.......just don't let Hollywood make it.

Not a bad idea, that movie is classic. Watched it as a kid, and it has only gotten better throughout the years. Maybe they could do a series such as Band of Brothers?

Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame is doing a remake of the "Dam Busters" with Stephen Fry writing the script. I am looking forward to that one.

I see what you guys are saying(for example I would cringe at a remake of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly) but I think battle scenes when done properly are a lot better than in the past. Notice, I said "when done properly".

I too would cringe at a remake of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

And what battle scenes/movies would you want to see redone?

I would love to see the battle scenes from The Battle of Midway(1976?) redone.

Okay. I have a stronger stand on Midway. Do not watch the original, it is mind numbingly bad. I think just about every war movie up to Saving Private Ryan could and should be remade.

All people who remake movies should be shot. ALL of them.

Oh, and "parusski"? All war movies up to "Shaving Ryan's Privates"? And you say this with THAT avatar? Shame on you.

Patton without Scott would be popcorn without butter.

IMHO they really messed up True Grit. It wasn't even close to being as good as the original.

LOL. I am my avatar, so you have shamed me.

COI was fantastically well made for a mid-70's war movie.

Also, "Shaving Ryan's Privates" was an interesting flick.

The problem with remakes is that the scripts are changed. And that goes for any movie that has been redone, not just war movies. Even though nothing was wrong with the original script.

As for COI, the movie was cut short when it ran out of money, so i think a remake with the same script would work.

Gunny, I would love to see COI remade with some serious script work. The hospital scene was the major low of the movie for me. The movie's pace is definitely rushed near the end.

Actually Sabre I am going to disagree with this one. I'm a huge fan of The Duke (my favorite movie being The War Wagon), but I have to hand it to the "remake" of True Grit. Not only is it much closer to the short story than the original is, it is a pretty good movie in its own right. Jeff Bridges did a great job playing Cogburn.

Just my two cents. I might be somewhat biased, though, as I am a big fan of Westerns....a very under-represented genre now.

michael1776, I also think True Grit was close to the original and well made.

I wouldn't mind seeing the movie version of the Caine Mutiny remade to follow the book more closely. The 53 movie was decent but was nothing like the book.

I guess I'm just getting old. I couldn't hardly understand Jeff Bridge's and his dialogue. I think the young girl did a wonderful job.

Hard to believe that kid was only 10 or 12. She stole the scene whenever she was in it. On the whole I have to say that I generally hate remakes. Perfect example of a bad remake - Conan. What garbage. Leave it to Hollywood to take a cult classic, try to reboot it, and spin out a fat load of crap. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by Rise of the Planet of the Apes, however. I went in thinking it was going to be a bomb, but it really impressed me. I also saw a preview for the remake of The Thing when I saw Rise. That scares me, because the John Carpenter version of that movie was perfect, and didn't need a remake. But the Hollywood execs can't leave well enough alone, and will do anything to try to skin us for a buck. And so the next big deal? The remake of Bladerunner. Again, another perfect movie. Why mess with it? You can't possibly improve on what is generally considered the best Sci Fi movie of all time.

And that's two posts in one day. I better slow down, I might actually hit 100 posts soon.
