Hi all,

Right off-a question:

Didn't the Tuskeegee airmen mostly fly an 'off' version of the Mustang? The P-51C? IIRC, it had an unusual canopy with some vis issues. The planes in the image look like the iconic D model with the excellent vis 'bubble' style canopy. Anyone else think so?

They flew the P-39, -40, -47 and -51C. I don't know what you mean by "off"?

They most certainly flew the P-51C but perhaps they got "D" variants (with bubble canopy) later on...

Apparently yes - they flew the P-51D with bubble canopy as well!

Hi Leo,

I'm interested in reading more about the transition of the airmen from the C to the D model. Any recommended sites with additional information (other than the model boxtop) that you know of?

I am decades long diorama model builder...

Hasegawa is known as one of the very best diorama model companies - I don't think that they would make a model without historic data!

Therefore we must check the Internet for more info on this P-51D for Tuskegee Airmen... I will try finding it myself as well today (when I can)...

Hi all,

According to this site:

http://332ndfightergroup.blogspot.com/

The Tuskegee began receiving first P-51D models in spring of 1945...

In this photo: Benjamin O Davis Jnr pictured on the left with an unidentified airman. The aircraft is 'Creamer's Dream', one of the 332nd's first P-51Ds. According to my records, this P-51 was the personal mount of 1st Lt Charles White of the 301st Squadron, and was accountable for the destruction of two Bf 109s on the 1st April, 1945. Hi all,

BTW, I think I posted few pictures I took from there when we visited it this winter few months ago...

quote:

Croatia's Eden: Photographer captures stunning Plitvice Lakes, some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world

By Chris Parsons for Daily Mail UK

It could almost be described as an Eden.

With its verdant forest and tumbling waterfalls, the idyllic Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of Croatia's most famous attractions and can lay claim to some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world.

Visitors have described the stunning park as 'Mother Nature in her loveliest, most scenic guise,' and these pictures show the sight in all its glory.

Awe-inspiring: The spectacular park is made of 16 individual lakes:

Idyllic: Visitors can spend hours on the spectacular trail the park offers:

The unique lakes are formed by natural dams made of limestone deposits over thousands of years:

The picturesque park has 16 stunning blue-green Plitvice Lakes, which are separated by natural dams of travertine limestone on the Plitvice plateau.

It is surrounded by the mountains Pljesevica, Mala Kapela, and Medvedak, which are part of the Dinaric Alps.

It is the limestone deposits which help form the amazing river and lake system within Plitvice Lakes, which is the oldest natural park in southeast Europe.

Water flowing over the limestone and chalk over thousands of years has created the barriers, creating the natural dams which in turn help form beautiful caves, rivers and waterfalls.

The tallest waterfall at the park is Veliki Slap at 70 metres (230 feet) tall.
The park itself has 3 hotels and a campsite, while visitors usually spend their time at Plitvice Lakes hiking along the trails taking in the spectacular views.

The Plitvice Parks were declared a national park in Croatia in 1949, and were given world heritage status in 1979.

The national park's beauty means it has been preserved as a World Heritage site:

Tranquil: The tallest waterfall at the Plitvice Lakes National Park is around 70 metres high:

Mother Nature's finest: The breathtaking scenery looks almost too good to be true with its cascading water and lush plants:

Famed for its gorgeous scenery, the park has attracted nearly 100 glowing reviews on travel website TripAdvisor.

One user from San Francisco commented on the site: 'Travel isn’t always about cities, towns, and where people live.

'It is also about where people don’t live and nature does! Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is indeed home to Mother Nature in her loveliest, most scenic guise.'

Another traveler from Sydney added: 'The most amazing combination of lakes ,waterfalls and scenery.

'We only went by chance and had only a few hours but it was one of the highlights of Croatia.'

Winter wonderland: In colder conditions the park takes on a haunting, white beauty:

The park looks truly spectacular when snow-capped in the winter months:

Oops.

I don't know where I read that it was on the NFL Network.  Shows how hard I really tried to find it on TV, huh?  I watched a couple of recorded episodes of The Mentalist with my lovely bride and went to bed early.

Good site, Leo. Thanks for finding this.

It clearly details the units' transition to the D model, a fact that I was previously unaware of.

Looks like your model boxtop is right!

Hi all,

Interesting!

In January 2012 there will be premiere of new war movie called "Red Tails" about WWII Tuskegee Airmen!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Tails

Here is trailer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpA6TC0T_Lw

Leo "Apollo11"

Why do I have a feeling it's going to be terrible?

Are you just saying that because it's unlikely to have many hurricanes or typhoons in it?

Sounds like sour grapes to me. Why don't you have a mega-big budget BoB remake. Heck, you can even have Cuba Gooding Junior in it! On second thought...

He drops to the ice all the time these days, but it's intentional. He's a goalie.

Why, Nik-I didn't think you cared? Not that there's anything wrong with a man crush, but tone it down a bit, will 'ya? You're being a bit obvious.

Hi all,

BTW, Kristian, did you "jailbreak" your "iPhone 4" and "iPad 2"?

I did long long time ago and I never regreted it (ever since I had my first iPhone - "IPhone 3G")...

Also I bought about 20$ worth of unofficial apps via Cydia - I couldn't be using my phone without those!
