Sounds like sour grapes to me. Why don't you have a mega-big budget BoB remake. Heck, you can even have Cuba Gooding Junior in it! On second thought...

We've already got a big-budget version of The Dambusters being made. I suspect it'll be rubbish as well Modern film-makers are usually trying to tell a story, not recreate an event. A remake of BoB would likely be even worse.

Maybe I am biased, but I don't care. The following are (IMO) good war films.

Battle of Britain
The Dambusters
A Bridge Too Far
Das Boot
Letters From Iwo Jima
Ice Cold in Alex

That is all.
I'll include Band of Brothers as an honourable mention as it's not a film.

And of course my favorite movie..."12 O'clock high". Of course you children wouldn't like it. It's not in color. Neither is my second favorite..."The Gallant Hours".

Nope. British war films were what we got on a Sunday afternoon or bank holiday, so I never really saw that many American war films so they don't really feature in my top list. I also grew up in the middle of RAF country and just a few miles from Scampton, so The Dambusters was a definite must see, it's the only film about Bomber Command that ever really got a showing. The only US film about the aerial war that got a regular screening was Memphis Belle, which was OK but not great.

Ze Germans were the main focus of our war films, the Far East wasn't widely known to us as kids. Again, that's probably due to where I grew up and meeting several ex-aircew who were war vets.

I forgot about Aces High though, and Full Metal Jacket (although I was 16 before I actually saw that all the way through). Perhaps Biggles should get a special mention, if only for the extra-special plot they managed to put together (probably at 4.30 on a Friday afternoon...)

WE were shown that on Petty Officers' Leadership Course as examples of good and bad leadership. It made a nice change from assault courses, runs, swims, parades and teaching drill.

Loved '12 O'clock High' or most anything with Gregory Peck. 'Pork Chop Hill' is another great film. Also 'King Rat', a great POW flick.

We were also. But we didn't do the other stuff. We were sailors. We don't do assault courses. Swims or runs we did twice a year (badly). Parades? Sailors? Next you'll be talking Gobs with guns!!!! Drills? Ok, we did do drills. But not at school.

'Pork Chop Hill'

Yes, a good film. I had been in bed for a few weeks with paratyphoid and the local Air Force group had the movie from the States and held a screening for me when I was well enough to watch it.

I really enjoyed Ingloreous Basterds, FWIW. I saw it twice. Nice piece of acting by the guy that played Col. Hans Landa particularly. Chilling. He won best supporting actor for it, if I recall correctly.

Much of the rest was typical Tarantino-obtuse and tangential dialogue, blood, plot twists, blood and shooting. Oh, right-there was blood too.

I don't recall Clooney in it, but Mike Myers ("Oh, behave!") had a bit role. Pitt was OK, but his "Tennessee" accent was laughably misplaced.
