I already have War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition. Is there any value to be had in getting this game as well? I thought the more limited scope and the different scale and period might make things interesting even in the light of the more 'advanced' game.

I have all three games in this series: UV, WiTP and WiTP-AE.

I started with UV and it was great fun, but if you enjoy playing AE, I'm fairly sure you'll be disappointed with UV. It's older and does not have many of the playing features that have been added to AE. I believe there are still some guys who play PBEM games of UV, if you're into to that.

Perhaps playing the Guadalcanal scenario on AE would be a good alternative. I've not played the AE version, but the one on WiTP was very similar to UV yet had the updated features.

I guess that depends.

As an AE player, I do still have a PBEM of UV going on as the Japanese -- Late Feb '43 now, and bad for me.

Just on the face if it, AE wins hands down, graphics-wise. Also, lots of the settings available to units aren't there in UV. Things like max range for air units, etc.

I would love to see the UV campagn created for AE. Stock WITP had a similar scenario. Since one hasn't been made, I'll have to try tinkering with the editor, I guess.

Overall, it's mostly the same engine, and there is something nice about finishing a turn in 15 minutes or less.

I can't believe it's been around 10 years now.

Oh I definitely have WPO as well. That one is a real treat and is some ways my favorite over WITP. I guess I was just thinking about UV specifically because it's that much simpler, kind of like WPO.

If you want something with more simplicity, then you should definitely give UV a try.

You do need to babysit the airgroups more. Fatigue racks up fairly quickly in UV.

What are the scenarios in UV like compared to the Guadalcanal scenario in WITP:AE?
