Why is the attitude of the governor of Alabama dropping each turn?
There are no union troops in his state, no musters, impressments,
or unfilled wants. The Confederacy is winning the bulk of the battles,
and all of the big ones. At the same time, Arkansas is rock solid,
no changes in that attitude since the start of the war.

On a related note, constructing buildings in a state has no effect on a
governor’s power. It stayed the same as before two buildings went up.
I read that new construction was supposed to increase a leader’s power.

Thoughts anyone?

I turned that option off. I got sick of governors not liking me for whatever reason.

With governors on, you take a huge hit for demoting McClellan, McDowell, Fremont, and Butler. But you have to do it.

Interesting. I knew that the governors didn't like one of their homeboys taking a hit, but I had no idea that it was really bad.

Not all developments increase the power of the governor, only those that you build for him to fulfill particular requests.

I'm looked at all the places in the code that reference the governor support number, and the only ones I can see that modify this number relate to fulfilled/unfulfilled requests, promoting/demoting generals from home states, and elections.  If it's not because of demoted generals from Alabama, I'm not sure what else it would be.

Thanks for taking a look.

Unless memory fails me, the Governor will start to dislike you if you allow enemy troops in his state and/or if any of the cities in the state is occupied as well.

Thanks. Unfortunately, at least one of the Governor's does not fit that criterion. I also believe the rules say if troops from a state take casualties, the Governor will be unhappy with that. Danged if I can figure out which troops belong to which state originally. Unless it is the state they started the game in.

All I know is the governors of Virginia and Tennessee hate me very quickly and they continue to hate me all game. There has to be more that boosts governor liking than building buildings for them or promoting generals. Maybe an across the board increase for winning a large battle or an increase based off of National Morale?

In the governors.txt file in the DATA folder there is a column called "Temper," with numbers indicating how likely a governor is to get annoyed with you. (The higher the number, the more easily he becomes grumpy.) So you can look up those governors by name and see how high the number is. That might solve the mystery.

Perhaps that is it. Pity there is no way of telling other than by modifying the game.
Thanks anyway.
