Hey Guys,
I just discovered your game last night after doing a google search for 4x space games. To my surprise this game called "Distant worlds" was released in 2010 and I had never even heard of it before. I thought of myself as a bit of a 4x buff so this surprised me. After reading a few reviews that complained about it being "so complicated" and "dated graphics" I must admit I was even more intrigued (as much as I like games like SotS I found hem very shallow).

8 hrs later it was 3am in the morning and I was so sad I had to goto bed after being totally engrossed by my first play. Thanks for releasing such a deep entertaining game. I can see myself losing many MANY hours to this in the future :)

Hear ya. For me Distant Worlds is one big rough diamond. It currently has its problems, but the good things easily outweight them.

You'll know your level of addiction has worsened when you start to mod the game.

Hello and welcome, SpectralFremen.

One of the best and strangest aspects of Distant Worlds is you can play quite a bit, feel you have grasped all the concepts of the game, and then you realize "the rabbit hole goes deeper than you thought".

For example, check out the components list to construct anything.  The see what resources those components need.  Then check your construction yards, see the different plants using stocked resources to produce those components.  Then see the cargo hold of that base, and the frieghters moving the resources to and from it.  And these resources were mined and delivered somewhere else then transported to your base.  And commercial transactions, the transfer of funds, were made all along the way.  And you can sit there as a player, quite oblivious to it all.

thanks for such a warm welcome guys :D
I think the entire civilian economic model of the game is genius. Not only is it more realistic it also reduces a massive amount of tedious micromanagement and it makes the game feel way more "alive".

There is still so much I have to learn. I am slowly "unautoing" portions of the game as i come to grips with how to handle it. Having a blast :D
