THE N’ID

Hanging in the heart of (high research) black holes, this solitary neutronium-based arachnid hooks its eight legs into space-time in order to trap matter before it blinks out of existance. Of enormous size and strength due to the twisting torque of high level gravity, the N’id has a stressed and short lifespan. Much of this lifespan in involved in sucking the core out of matter in order to create a tendril that drills down into the black-hole, through space-time, and into the next universe to collect anti-matter, anti-matter that is used to create the next generation. On the N'id's implosive death, the black hole collapses, propelling a single young into space, where it travels in stasis on gravity waves, itself highly dense and gravitationally attractive to passing matter, matter which collects in its gravitational wake as it heads to its new home.

Its new home is a specific type of star, where it uses anti-matter to trigger a super-nova to create a new black-hole and a new home. The effect on any local system is, of course, catastrophic.

The adult N’id is highly dangerously, even to matter nominally outside the influence of the wormhole. It has the ability to shoot out an occasional gravity wave and pull in matter out of reach. The young N’id, still huge by any standard, is often lethal to passing ships and orbital structures, trapped as these ships are by its gravity field.

The N’id can only be killed by long range missile or mass driver weapons that can breach its neutronium armour, a breach that, for the adult N'id, will leave an empty neutronium shell, and for the young N'id, carrying potent antimatter, will cause it to blink out of existence.

LORE
The N’id is possibly as old as space-time itself. They were the only creature the ancient Guardians feared and they were hunted close to extinction. But wiser heads prevailed: the Guardians came to sense the purpose of the Nid, and the power that could come from manipulating its access to other universes and its control of black holes. They did not foresee that powers beyond their universe could sense this too.
Some say that the Shakturi have an ancient cult – hidden within their military elites – the cult of the God N’Arach, the Great Spider, that brought them forth from darkness into space-time, into a new universe that is willed to them by N’Arach and by destiny itself.

Technical Data:

Simple Type: Guardian of High Research Bonus (100% in all types or alternately, an exclusive tech research line based on anti-matter). High HP, plus gravity well. Vulnerable only to long range missile attack (or long range mass drivers)
Advanced Type: 'Mobile' Guardian of 'Mobile' High Research Bonus, movement triggering a map-changing event (either programmed as a one-off or triggering a pre-programmed disaster event)

Player actions: attempting to place a research station at black hole with adult N'id guardian, will result in x% per turn of research station being sucked in by N'id generated gravity wave. Successful destruction of adult N'id will result in the neutronium shell of N'id remaining as potential 'research station'. Ownership of exoskeleton = owership of research bonus or exclusive tech research line. This makes the station exclusive, but tradeable, and, perhaps, invadeable (if treated as a 'planet' rather than a 'station'). Attacking and 'owning' adult N'id exoskeleton will result in % negative diplomatic changes with Guardians or Shakturi (if they exist in game), and other empires. Failure to takeover adult N'id (after x turns) will result in the regeneration of N'id via collapse of black hole and ejection of young N'id. Young N'id is far more vulnerable to long range attack, but destruction will result in % negative diplomatic change with both Shakturi and Guardian (if in game), and the creation of a Shakturi Pirate base targeting that empire (if in game or not in game).
