Am the Japanese in the midst of a battle in one of the larger scenarios. #17 as I recall. I have subs that have returned to both Shortland and Rabaul, but they will not load torpedoes. The ports are in the 4-6 range and they have around 25k Supplies and plenty of fuel. Am using V1.40.

What is the minimum port size to reload torpedoes and how much Supply is needed?

Hi Kevin
did you click on the refuel the TF from port button ?

if that did not put Trops in, shut down the TF and then rebuild it

I can remember doing it both ways

Your subs might still be on minelaying mission so they will only take on one torpedo per tube and no mines from those bases. You can change their mission to sub patrol and they will load normally.

I have had subs get to port and load fuel and torps automatically and then I have had some load fuel but I had to click "load from port" to get the torps aboard and I have had some subs which don't load anything unliess I click the load from port button.

So I click the load from port button all the time just to make sure.

I have already done all of the above w/o success. I still think that torpedo reloading has something to do w/ port size or supply level.

Maybe you used them on a suppy mission and the supply hasn't been off-loaded. If you are Rabaul and Shortlands they would both be large enough to replentish subs.

Maybe damage is preventing them?

Have you waited a turn while the sub was in port ie: after disbanding?

I find that you have to usually wait a turn for the torps to load. I get them to load on size 3 ports buy disbandign the sub patrol tf and waiting a turn with them in port.

hmmm,if it is a port big enough to disband in, it should be big enough to load trops

I have never run into this kind of hassle, check for damage to sub, maybe the tubes are knocked out ?????

good luck

They only other thing I think it might be is similar to minelayers only being able to load mines at the main port (Truk or Noema). I've not played the IJN but have played the Allies quite often & mines can only be loaded from Noema, I've not had the problem of subs not loading torps at any size base as long as there is plenty of supplies & fuel. I wish Matrix would change it to where mines could be loaded from any port with supplies & fuel.

I would prefer no mines. They just get overplayed and misplayed. Sure there were mines, but the MSW and mines could be taken out. The Japanese economy would have been bankrupted trying to keep mines in stock. But mines are one of the few ways of attacking the enemy without getting shot back. (Another is a B17 flying at 33k).

I agree with AA, you can't let mines get any more proliferate. As it is, you can use mines to block off high traffic points, and maybe lay a nasty surprise for your opponent. Neither strategy will work if your opponent is careful (unless he has no MSWs) - whereas the whole game would come to a standstill if everybody had unlimited access to mines.

Gives the Japs a much needed defensive advantage later in the game (they get more MLs that lay more mines than the DMs the allies get).

I found the problem w/ one of the subs. Little RO-34 started the scenario w/ torps and mines. It fired its torps, but the game won't allow it to be reloaded w/ mines on-board (I am assuming). I assigned it a mine mission in Shortland harbor to get rid of the mines. Let's see if that solves the problem. The game also wouldn't allow me to offload the mines. Maybe that can only be done in Truk?
